About this deal

INTERNAL INPUT BUFFER SWITCH: An internal slide switch to engage a buffer on the Big Muff’s input circuit that increases the high end content of both the distorted and clean signal being blended in The Germanium 4 Big Muff is not really recommended if you're looking for a genuine Big Muff fuzzsound, but it's a fantastic choice if you're looking for a 2-in-1 distortion pedal with booster/overdrive. J Mascis signature edition, with special artist graphics. Used the same circuit as the 2019 Ram's Head.

I’m open to your suggestions. You said that the Laney Cub12R was a Marshall like a JTM or Plexi but not quite. There are so many choices I was hoping to get a very good match on the first try. The following year, the sixth version of the Muff was launched. It was a transistor version with tone bypass. And in the same year, a transistor version of the Little Big Muff was also released. 1979 was also the year in which an op-amp version of the Muff Fuzz saw the light. 80s Most vintage Big Muff listings will include a “V” followed by a number (i.e. V7). This nomenclature denotes the version of the pedal, which can then be pinned to a production year or range. What are the major differences between versions? The first model is a clone of the Mosrite Fuzzrite designed by Ed Sanner. Built for Guild Guitars, later versions had three knobs and are precursors Big Muff Pi. Foxey Lady design by Mike Mathews, the founder of Electro-Harmonix, with modifications and biasing by Bill Berko.NOT THE FIRST REISSUE - This was technically the 3rd reissue of the Big Muff, and in fact, this is a reissue of the first reissue! In 2000 Electro-Harmonix reissued the Big Muff in the same type of enclosure as the last New York City version from 1984, marketing it as the "NYC original", but that was not the first reissue. That original EHX company went out of business in 1984. New Sensor resurrected EHX under the Sovtek brand in the 1990s and the first pedal reissued was the Big Muff. It was marketed as a Russian made "reissue of the legendary Electro-Harmonix Big Muff Pi." MIDS EQ TRIM POTS: Three internal trim pots for adjusting (a) High Q bandwidth, (b) High Q output volume and (c) overall MIDS EQ output volume.

Released by Sovtek, made in Russia, It has army green chassis, used the same circuit as the "Red Army Overdrive" and "Civil War". In a first for a Big Muff, there is a song lyric printed on the circuit board inside the pedal that seriously adds to the coolness factor of the reissue - 'Follow the smoke toward the riff-filled land'. "Over the years, our engineers have hidden little Easter eggs in the silk screen on our circuit boards. Some stay better hidden than others. This quote is from the song “Dopesmoker” by Sleep, which we play often at work. To my knowledge, [Sleep’s guitarist] Matt Pike never used a Green Russian Big Muff, but the quote is more of an homage as the Green Russian has become a favorite of stoner metal guitarists. “Dopesmoker” is the “Stairway to Heaven” of stoner metal so I had to reference it." And I have a question – David on his Live in Gdansk album during a Time solo uses P1 with Tube Driver (OD). I never uses Tube driver, so I don`t know how it sounds when overdriven. Can I reach the tone of the solo just with a Musket with just adjusted Pre control , or I need to crank Pre and add a Spark Booster after witch cause more noise? Whether you play blues, indie or even metal, this is a fantastic pedal at a superb price, well worth the investment - much better than the Visual Sound Jekyll & Hydeused by The Strokes, perhaps its most obvious competitor. Common named "Civil War" because of graphical design, made in Russia. It has blue and white chassis, and used the same circuit as the "Red Army Overdrive" and "Green Russian".

The Big Muff was designed by Bob Myers and Mike Matthews in New York City and released in 1969. The Big Muff has two identical transistor clipping sections in series which help to create the highly compressed saturation and sustain. The Muff circuit is more complicated than early fuzzes like the Fuzz Face and Tone Bender. It has a higher impedance than those pedals, which means your guitar volume knob won’t have as great of an effect on the character of the fuzz. It also means you don’t have to place the Big Muff first in your chain for it to sound good. Capacitors were usually film type. No electrolytics were used, other than the polarized 20-22uF power supply filter cap. The pedal was designed in 1969 by Bob Myers and Mike Matthews and now has many different versions. In the overview below a brief history of the pedal is presented. Not all versions of the pedal are included here, which is impossible. Furthermore, the exact year of some pedals can no longer be found. The year that the pedal was published according to most connoisseurs has been chosen. The success of the Muff was in the special sound, but also in the reliability and price/quality ratio.
