Development [ edit ] Advertisement from the June 1981 issue of The On-Line Letter for some of On-Line Systems' Hi-Res Adventure games, including Wizard and the Princess I guess that's the reason why I like 'The Princess and the Wizard' more than Julia Donaldson's most famous work, 'The Gruffalo' - it's feminist, intentional or not.

My novel THE GIANTS AND THE JONESES is going to be made into a film by the same team who made the Harry Potter movies, and I have written three books of stories about the anarchic PRINCESS MIRROR-BELLE who appears from the mirror and disrupts the life of an otherwise ordinary eight-year-old. I have just finished writing a novel for teenagers. My real breakthrough was THE GRUFFALO, again illustrated by Axel. We work separately - he’s in London and I’m in Glasgow - but he sends me letters with lovely funny pictures on the envelopes.

I also continued to write “grown-up” songs and perform them in folk clubs and on the radio, and have recently released two CDs of these songs. Carry out a role play activity to interview the wizard, princess or fairy godmother. What are their thoughts about the different events in the story. Design and make a new sparkly dress for Princess Eliza. Can you design a new sparkly outfit for the wizard / fairy godmother too?

Rewrite the story (or a part of it) in the first person, from the point of view of the wizard or Princess Eliza. One of my television songs, A SQUASH AND A SQUEEZE, was made into a book in 1993, with illustrations by the wonderful Axel Scheffler. It was great to hold the book in my hand without it vanishing in the air the way the songs did. This prompted me to unearth some plays I’d written for a school reading group, and since then I’ve had 20 plays published. Most children love acting and it’s a tremendous way to improve their reading. Compose a piece of music to accompany the arrival of the fairy godmother / evil wizard. How do the styles of these differ? I'd like to see 'The Princess and the Wizard' adapted into something, and expanded on a lot more. It'd make a great kid's film, especially for girls who like princesses with no princes; who work hard to save themselves. By adapting to and changing herself - externally and internally - depending on her circumstances and environment.

Make a shopping list for a birthday party. How much would each item cost? How many of each will you need if there are 10, 20 or 100 guests? Wiswell, Phil (January 24, 1984). "Coming Soon: Games For The PCjr". PC. pp.142–145 . Retrieved January 26, 2015. What if Rapunzel, Cinderella and Sleeping Beauty didn't wait around for a prince to rescue them, but instead used their own wits to find happiness? I have read Princess & The Wizard with several classrooms of young children and both boys and girls remark on how much they prefer this story to the traditional passive fairytale princesses. It really should be part of any class study of fairytales. This is a fun book with a strong and smart female character, Eliza. It teaches children colours and numbers through a playful story. Wizard and the Princess was ported to the IBM PC in 1982, Sierra's first game for the PC platform. For unknown reasons, this version was re-titled Adventure in Serenia. Roberta Williams reputedly referred to the colors on the IBM PC as "atrocious" upon seeing the completed game running for the first time. Adventure in Serenia was a launch title for the IBM PCjr, announced in late 1983. [5]Princess Eliza turns into different objects with different colours. Can you make a list of, or draw, things that are each colour for Princess Eliza to turn into? According to Sierra's Interaction magazine, this game can be considered a prelude to the King's Quest series. King's Quest V marked a return to the Kingdom of Serenia. [11] The events are mentioned and expanded upon in The King's Quest Companion, 2nd Edition. It mentioned that the wanderer, a barbarian, had turned down the offer of marriage after saving the princess. He journeyed into the desert and died. All that remained of him is his skeleton and a single leather shoe (a reference to KQ5). Princess Priscilla later married an individual named Kenneth the Huge and became the queen of Serenia, after her father's (King George IV) death. [12] It was further referenced as part of the King's Quest series through a trivia question in the King's Questions game that came with certain versions of the King's Quest Collection. Mark Marlow reviewed Mission: Asteroid, Mystery House, and The Wizard and the Princess for Computer Gaming World, and stated that " The Wizard and the Princess has the best graphics and has a beautiful fairy tale setting as its theme. Of the three it was the most challenging and should be attempted only after you are familiar with the gaming system". [6] Poor young Princess Eliza, with her fairy godmother's magic, turns herself into various colourful animals whenever the wizard gives her her seven chances to escape his castle (he owns a rhyming magical book which tells him where she is every time, so he isn't utterly stupid). This reminded me of 'The Sword and the Stone'. And the wizard being angry and setting forth the plot at the beginning because he wasn't invited to Eliza's birthday party is 'Sleeping Beauty'-ish.
