Even years after, once the business was built and the profit had made him rich and well known within the aristocratic circles, would drink in the pub with his distillery workers. Decadent and full. Only a very light touch of the single pot still signature oiliness, which usually smells to me like soot and engine grease (but in a good way?). A rest in the glass develops the hearty coconut note that I find in Redbreast 12.

In recent years, several single pot still variants have been relaunched under the Powers label. [1] History [ edit ] John's Lane Distillery, circa 1887. In 1791 James Power, an innkeeper from Dublin, established a small distillery at his public house at 109 Thomas St., Dublin. [3] [1] The distillery, which had an output of about 6,000 gallons in its first year of operation, [4] initially traded as James Power and Son, but by 1822 had become John Power & Son, [1] and had moved to a new premises at John's Lane, a side street off Thomas Street. [3] At the time the distillery had three pot stills, though only one, a 500-gallon still is thought to have been in use. [3] The old make, which we drank with our luncheon, was delicious, and finer than anything we had hitherto tasted. It was as perfect in flavour, and as pronounced in the ancient aroma of Irish Whisky so dear to the hearts of connoisseurs, as one could possibly desire, and we found a small flask of it very useful afterwards on our travels. You may have noticed in my notes, solder smoke, and you are probably thinking “what?” When I was 15, I bought a Heathkit Short Wave Radio. Heathkit sold electronic products such as radios, stereos, etc., that had to be assembled. I remember my Dad helping me put this together. Since soldering was required, solder smoke was present both in the air and in the mouth and it has a tendency to linger. Every once in a while with Powers John's Lane I get that same note on the nose and the palate. It makes me think of my Dad and our time spent putting that radio together. Cheers Dad! BRAND NOTES
