About this deal

A full-length rainfly with dual exits takes care of waterproofing duty, and includes two sizable vestibules for an extra 19 square feet of external storage. We’re also big fans of the Trail Hut’s door-integrated ventilation scheme, which can be opened and closed via a pair of zippers from inside the tent. This allows you to fine-tune airflow in the middle of a rainstorm without getting wet, and it’s a wonder more models don’t use similar designs. Weather resistance plays a huge role in a tent’s versatility and livability. Pretty much any tent serves its purpose by keeping the bugs at bay during fair weather, but as we all know, mother nature doesn’t always play nice. The main factors we look for in evaluating a tent’s weather performance are waterproofing and wind resistance. As we touched on in the section above, a weather-worthy tent is one of the main reasons to upgrade to a premium camping model. In most cases, the pole materials (aluminum is better than fiberglass) and designs are more robust, seam sealing and waterproof fabrics improve in quality, and the inclusion of full-coverage rainflies help keep out blowing rain. It's good to keep in mind that the weather can still get plenty rowdy in the summer, particularly in the mountains (and some national parks). Partial-coverage rainflies fall short in inclement weather REI Wonderland 6: A particularly roomy 6 person tent (it’s even got two rooms) that’s very easy to pitch. Read our full test and review… We found it easiest to set-up the North Face Wawona 6 tent with two people, but do believe it could be done by a single person as well.

This change of mind return policy is in addition to, and does not affect your rights under the Australian Consumer Law including any rights you may have in respect of faulty items. The included footprint adds additional value to this well-constructed tent. The mesh is 40D polyester, the tub floor is 68D ripstop polyester, and the poles are DAC Pressfit aluminum. The interior square footage is small, but dual vestibules help to keep everything you don't need for sleeping separate. And while very lightweight, you'll sacrifice headroom in the tradeoff. Overall, this tent is small but mighty and a great addition to any campers toolbox, depending on your needs. This is where the best waterproof tents earn their keep. There’s simply no doubt that any of the tents above will keep you dry in a rainstorm, and that’s peace of mind worth paying for. Since the Alps Mountaineering Camp Creek tent comes with a partial rainfly rather than a full-length version, I’d rate this as a 2-3 season tent.A massive six person camping tent made from durable materials. Tunnel shaped design and ground-level windows give a particularly large and open feel. See Review We’ve been outspoken fans of the North Face Wawona line of tents for some time, so it should come as no surprise that the Wawona 6 takes our top honors as the best waterproof tent overall. This tent also took top honors in our recent camping tent field test, and our testers all had universal acclaim for just about every aspect of the Wawona. Its single wall design means that once it is up and on its poles your job is all done, and no extra rain fly needs to be attached to weatherproof it. This is a good thing because it would take a lot of work to hoist a rain fly over its high frame which has a peak height of 6”6”. Unbelievably spacious interior and tall ceilings. Excellent exterior storage and premium materials throughout. See Review

The doors allow for some cross-ventilation in warmer weather, but you may find it a bit hot sleeping in the tent during summer. (Which is precisely why we’re recommending it as a winter tent!) Excellent interior space, reliable weather protection, and an impressive “gear garage” vestibule. Premium tent quality at an affordable price point. See Review An expedition-proven tent built to withstand the worst weather on the planet. Incredibly tough yet surprisingly comfortable and easy to live with. See Review Coleman also includes a few extra livability perks in their latest skydome including a floor layout that’s fit for a queen-sized air mattress and a fast-pitching clip-in canopy design. Our favorite feature of the lot though is the integrated awning on the front of the vestibule, which sits far enough away from the front door of the tent that you can actually leave it open in light rain for extra ventilation without letting water into the tent. The best camping tents are often big investments, and while some are much larger than others, nothing determines a tent’s overall value quite like durability. Even the most weatherproof tent on the market isn’t worth buying if it isn’t going to survive beyond a single season, so we put a lot of weight on durability during our testing.

Many budget-oriented tents compromise in interior livability, but that’s certainly not the case with Coleman’s Montana 8P. This model stretches a substantial 16 feet in length, has a tall 74-inch peak height (the side rooms are shorter), and includes near-vertical walls that maximize the usable space. A single side door is placed right in the center, which does limit ease of entry/exit, but the sheer size of the thing makes it a nice match for groups of four to six people. So what makes any waterproof tent worth buying? Here are the criteria we use when evaluating a shelter. Space and Comfort The North Face Wawona took top honors in our most recent camping tent field test. There’s a lot to love here.
