Lotso was originally conceived as a teddy bear from the early 1980s Care Bears toy line. This idea was not dropped until after the storyboard was completed and can be seen in the tie-in book The Art of Toy Story 3. Lotso shares character traits with Stinky Pete from Toy Story 2. They both seemed to be friendly and caring at first but were eventually revealed to be villains.
