About this deal

With the destruction of rainforests comes the destruction of the orangutan's habitats. To make their situation even worse, they are at risk from illegal hunting, where the females are killed, so their babies can be sold illegally as pets. The Endangered Species Coalition (ESC) is pleased to announce our 2022 Saving Endangered Species Youth Art Contest! The Art Contest is open to K-12 grade students – residing in the U.S . or U.S. Territories-including homeschooled youth or participants in out of school time programs. The contest is an integral part of the 16th annual Endangered Species Day, Friday May 20th, 2022. These are the primary goals of the Saving Endangered Species Youth Art Contest: Have students choose from the grab bag as they enter the class and follow the directions on the “Texture Warm Up”. The preliminary judges select the top forty semi-finalist artworks. From these forty semifinalists, the six final contest winners are chosen. Two separate judging panels, who are arts professionals, artists, and arts educators from across the U.S., select the semifinalists and finalists. The final six winning categories include: Grand Prize, First Place, and four Grade Level winners. The Grade Level winners include four groups: Grades K-2, Grades 3-5, Grades 6-8, and Grades 9-12.

Something thing that sets the whale shark apart from the rest of the shark species is the fact that it is a filter feeder. Out of the more than 500 species of sharks in the world, only 3 of them are filter feeders: the whale shark, the basking shark, and the megamouth shark. Because of its feeding style, the whale shark tends to live off plankton and other small organisms that float in the water, which is surprising given its size. While the Yangtze river plays a crucial role in healthy ecosystem functioning, years of environmental degradation, overfishing and water pollution in the region are having detrimental impacts on many animal species who call it their home. One of the biggest reasons for the golden lion tamarins’ endangerment is habitat loss and fragmentation. Golden lion tamarins are found in the Atlantic Coastal Forest in Brazil, 85% of which has been destroyed. This makes it very hard for golden lion tamarins to survive and also leads to interbreeding. Interbreeding increases the risk of genetic abnormalities and decreases the overall health of the population.Description: The First Place winner is recognized for the outstanding quality of their work across grade categories. All eligible artworks K-12 students submit to the art contest are considered for this award. In the series, Warhol focuses on every animal from the Endangered Species Act of 1973 of endangered species. This act defined endangered species as a humanitarian matter, banned trade involving the endangered animals, and made steps to protect the animal’s original habitats. Like many other works by Andy Warhol, Endangered Species experienced significant success. This was probably owed to the ‘artist’s ubiquitously signature pop art 2 style and his focus on the use of specific colors. Andy Warhol – Endangered Species, complete set of ten signed screenprints, 1983, each 96,5 x 96,5 cm (38 x 38 in.) 10 Animals & Their star treatment

The whooping crane became an endangered species due to overhunting and habitat loss. Today its recovery is affected by collisions with power lines, drought and the development of its natural habitat. Teaching Endangered Animals For Kids News Adult chimpanzees are around 3 to 5 feet tall, weighing anywhere between 25 and 50 kgs, and can be found in the forests of Central Africa. Galápagos penguins can be found on the Galápagos Islands, and are the only penguins living north of the equator. Galápagos penguins are the second-smallest penguins on earth, second only to the aptly named ‘Little Penguins’. Adaptations for elementary school: Teacher can choose 3 or 4 endangered species. As a class, teacher can divide preliminary sketch paper into 3 or 4 sections and show students how to draw each species starting with basic shapes. Teacher can choose to have students just draw species’ faces. (For example: the spotted owl can have a triangle beak with circle eyes, etc.)In the 1970s, there were fewer than 200 golden lion tamarins in the wild and, by 1996, they had made it to the IUCN red list. Due to conservation efforts, the number of golden lion tamarins has increased, but is still dangerously low. Nowadays, there are over 1000 golden lion tamarins in the wild. Sadly, due to deforestation, their remaining habitat is not big enough to sustain them if their population continues to grow. Once upon a time, Yangtze river dolphins used to live alongside finless porpoises, but there haven't been any freshwater dolphin sightings for the past two decades. Sadly, this could be yet another stark reminder of what soon may follow for many endangered species, including the Yangtze finless porpoise. Posters are a wonderful way to support learning on a specific topic, by providing a helpful source of visual reinforcement in the classroom as well as helping to make your classroom a more colourful and welcoming place!
