DNA Loft is the newer of the two midsole foams in the Ghost 13 but it feels very similar to BioMogo. I hope that Brooks transitions to their new DNA Flash foam which is lighter and much more responsive. First off, the Ghost is a neutral shoe. Basically, the runner who wears a neutral shoe is someone whose feet do not need any motion control whatsoever. If you have overpronation issues, meaning your feet tend to roll inward too much, the Ghost is not going to provide any guidance or correction. There are three wide flex grooves which span the entire width of the shoe underneath the forefoot which results in a very flexible Ghost 13. The first positive about both Ghosts is that it’s just a quality shoe that works for pretty much any situation you throw at it. Its EVA midsole will lose cushioning over time while its outsole rubber wears down faster than super hard-wearing rubber like the BRS 1000 found on the Pegasus 37 or AHAR+ on the Cumulus 22. The Ghost was born in 2008 when it replaced another neutral trainer called the Brooks Burn. Since then, Brooks’ strategy when it comes to the Ghost series is to make small, incremental changes from year to year, rather than doing complete overhauls. DNA Loft is basically Brooks’ softest cushioning to date. It’s basically a blend of EVA foam rubber and air to give you that perfect balance between responsiveness and cushioning. Even though the DNA Loft is Brooks’ softest version of their foam, the Ghost is not unstable or mushy in any way. A daily trainer is arguably the most important shoe in a runner’s shoe rotation because the bulk of their running is done in them.

From a beginner runner just starting out, to a marathoner, the Ghost 13 has something for everyone. It can do easy runs, recovery runs and even tempo runs if you don’t mind its hefty weight.

Engineered Mesh Upper

The comfort delivered by the new midsole and upper of the Brooks Ghost 13 deserves nothing but praise. We are really fond of the instant step-in comfort of the shoe and its stretchy plush upper. I can’t mark the upper of the Ghost 13 down for anything except the fact that it doesn’t have a gusseted tongue.
