I love Scotch, Scotchy Scotch Scotch’ famously claimed Channel 4’s Ron Burgundy in Anchorman’s opening scene. The tie-in whisky, created to promote the sequel Anchorman 2: The Legend Continues, is a blend from Old St. Andrewsusing Speyside, Highlandand Islay whiskies. Named for one of Burgundy’s many mythology-inspired euphemisms (‘By the beard of Zeus!’ is another favourite), the whisky has since been discontinued. These same glasses also make a star appearance in Guillermo del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities – The Viewing episode. In Joshi’s (Robin Wright) LAPD office in Blade Runner 2049 we find an oh-so-beautiful grey metal E63 Table Lamp (also called the Ruspa Table Lamp) designed by Umberto Riva. The Fairy Flag is a little-known Scottish independent fantasy film beset with issues delaying its release. Based on the legendary romance between the chief of the McLeod clan and the faerie queen Titania, it boasts some notable alumni from the film industry including David Lee, who was a cinematographer on the Tom Hanks movie Cloud Atlas, and comedian Ross Noble. Blade Runner 2049 director Denis Villeneuve said: ‘Like many fans, I remember the Johnnie Walker bottle from the first film, so it was a unique privilege to collaborate with Johnnie Walker on designing a totally original, custom bottle for the new movie.’

Unlike the Cibi whisky glass, the unusual shaped Johnnie Walker bottle was not commercially available. Doing a little research online, I discovered that when props were presented to Ridley and his team, they only had 2 glass bottles available. Ridley and others loved the bottle so much that they wanted a few copies made for production so about a dozen vacuum-formed copies were made. Unfortunately they all leaked so the copies were used for set decoration only and simply became static props. To match the refined sophistication of the Kingsman agents, GlenDronach distillery partnered with film studio 20th Century Fox to bottle a 1991 Sherry cask-matured GlenDronach. Kingsman director Matthew Vaughn chose the vintageas it reflects the birth year of the film’s protagonist, Eggsy. The new expression was created by Johnnie Walker master blender Jim Beveridge with the film’s director, Denis Villeneuve, with one eye on how whiskies of the future might taste.
