About this deal

I mean it is possible that there just isn't that much to tell. I get that the nature of this forum is to hope there's some juicy secret just waiting to come to light, but it is entirely possible that there isn't much there beyond the usual embarrassing teenager stuff that most of us would rather leave behind when we grow up. Though this could be a marketing ploy by the publishing company because I just nearly bought the book to spite the reviewers, before I caught myself on Same goes for BB's expert knowledge. Compared to a random person on the street with zero sewing/history knowledge she's an expert, that's what they call her. The same thing is happening to Rachel when people get irritated that she calls herself a beginner when she has plenty sewing projects under her belt. But in reality she is (no shade on Rachel, love her regardless). Honestly what landed me on this forum was Googling if anyone knew her from high school. If there was any sources from the "before" time that BB supposedly has a medical reason for not remembering. Unless she was home schooled? Like someone has got to know who she was before this persona. But then again...I get really irritated by Americans who think they're so much better than the rest of us because they drink tea and have seen an episode of The Great British Bake Off. They completely romanticize English culture, and she in particular idealizes Victorian England. Yes, in Victorian England the clothes were lovely. There were also no labor laws so six year olds were working in factories for fourteen hours a day, women had very few rights, and there was rampant colonialization going on all over the world. It wasn't Downton Abbey for everyone. And people like her always look down their noses at the rest of us Americans, who are so uncouth with our ~fast fashion~. Ever heard of Top Shop, Bernie?

Anyone who watches 10 minutes of her video is desperate to find out how an unemployed woman who takes on no sewing commissions can afford a Manhattan apartment. She seems to have been passionate about fantasy costuming for longer than the historical costuming. Before she got too popular and still used her real name as her Facebook name, you could see her tagged in pictures of ren fairs over the years (always with her sibling Dani). So fast fashion is an historical development? BB doesn't seem to know that. Neither did I, but alas I am not a Dress Historian (B.A., pricey drama school, 2017). I've also been uncomfortable with her attitude towards fast fashion. I completely agree that it's very harmful to the planet, but the one thing that people completely gloss over is that it's the only thing some people can afford. You can go on and on about how it's better to save up and buy better quality pieces that are easier on the environment, but at the end of the day many, many people don't have that option. Or can only do that with odd things here and there, not their entire wardrobe. It's especially infuriating seeing as it looks like she and her family have a *lot* of money.Especially since I imagine Bernadette banner herself would take strong issue with your dismissing a lesbian relationship so callously. A significant area investigated by Banner has been the accuracy in reproductions of historical clothing, for example in films like Little Women (2019) and Beauty and the Beast (2017). [8] In addition, she has also been featured by Glamour as commentary for an analysis of Mary Poppins' dressing. [9] It is boring as hell for me. I would say, I wasted that time, except, I've knitted, so it was not completely lost... Anyhow, her statements are generally fine, except on the 1851 book, when she says, that it is high crinolin time, when crinolins were patented in the middle of the decade (so a few years later). But then again, we've already seen all this. Nothing new.Wait her facts are wrong, then it pointed to the viewer of her videos saying that it was not ment to be educational but entertainment and nothing more. Then why make such a video The point is that she was constantly talking how she loves READING, that she can't live without books, constantly shows off super hard books to read ( I follow her on GoodReads too btw). And she even wasnt reading them - listening on Audioble. Its quite strange tbh that such a book worm wont read Jordan. To like or not to like - this can apply only after reading. When I said that she liked the simplified horrible script TV series, and could not stretch her mind to read the books by the author because it wasnt following the script of the tv series, I mean that she is faking herself a lot.

Tisch Drama Alumna Bernadette Banner Creates Online Business Studying Historical Dress". New York University. 27 February 2020. Archived from the original on 29 November 2020 . Retrieved 29 November 2020. I’m currently watching her Christmas video and finally decided to see if there was a GG thread. I’m a little disappointed that there’s only a few posts as I love having a big thread to catch up on!

TISCH DRAMA ALUMNA BERNADETTE BANNER CREATES ONLINE BUSINESS STUDYING HISTORICAL DRESS". Tisch. 27 February 2020. Archived from the original on 20 March 2021 . Retrieved 15 December 2020. At best, it's hypocrisy. At worst, it's her intentionally joking about a genocide and the victims, misrepresenting an oppressed people, etc so she could joke about the funny hat. Oh, and she's making money off it. Once again, if you see an insta story, don't just talk about it, screenshot it and share it please for archival purpose so we can share with others. they're only up 24 hours.

At first I thought she was a breath of fresh air and I really liked watching her sewing projects and research videos. And still do when she puts them up! But I also started to feel like she's snobby unfortunately. she’s insistent in YouTube comments that she’s not Jewish, and that she will not be discussing her upbringing, but this does all leave some confusion as to how someone can be so active on the internet and interested in Britain in particular and yet be unaware of how Christmas is celebrated? It’s almost entirely not a religious thing here Tbh. In the beginning i really liked Bernadette! Still kinda do. She certainly has talent although i've always cringed at some very minor sewing-decisions she made. I'm not trying to look down on Americans, I'm just asking if this is normal in the US. And if it is, I understand why. I live in a small town and I can easily cross a XV century archway or walk over a roman wall everyday, so I am "used to" ancient things. In the US this kind of old things are not as available so I get why anyone would be amazed (just as I was amazed when I saw real dinosaur fossils, not common in my hometown) Anyone like me, who grew up Muslim in the UK and knows absolutely all things about Christmas despite never celebrating it herself, wonders how an obviously affluent person has never even watched, at the very least, Home Alone as a child? It's pretty on par with Americans. The US is a relatively "new" country (even though, you know, it was already settled pre colonization). In other countries, they reuse things and use things, even if they're old. In America, rather than upkeep it, we'll just demolish it, donate it, or throw it out and get something new or more convenient. In addition to rediscovering the methods by which clothes were made in the past, the Bernadette Banner YouTube channel seeks to explore how we in the 21st century can learn from and adopt historical sewing techniques and attitudes towards dress in an effort to fight the effects of fast fashion and mass manufacture Bernadette Banner is a filmmaker and dress historian, best known for her YouTube channel documenting the exploration, reconstruction and interpretation of historical dress. Her work focuses on English and American dress predating the widespread use of the electric sewing machine, with a particular focus in the years of dress between 1890 - 1914; all reconstruction work is done by hand or with the use of period authentic machinery. srsly. How has not a single fellow high schooler/university peer not broken the silence or shared *anything*?? It's a great point that the Christmas confusion doesn't make sense given how UK obsessed she is. I still don't understand how she grew up in America and claims not to understand basic information about one of the country's biggest holidays.
