About this deal

We like that the bottle is made from 100% recycled plastic and that Viakal is safe to use (as long as you don’t mix it with bleach) as it’s free from ammonia, bleach and chlorine. The good news is that it only takes five minutes to work, and you can use it on a multitude of surfaces, including toilets, sinks, bathtubs, showers, tiles, glass, and stainless steel taps.

These products can simply be sprayed on, left for a while, and then wiped, scrubbed, or rinsed away, depending on just how bad the limescale is. Bleach Oust sachets are very easy to use – each one is exactly one dose. Just boil your kettle, add Oust and wait for 10 minutes. Then make sure you reboil the kettle with fresh water and you’re good to go. In the morning, use a toilet brush to remove any limescale that has been left behind, before flushing the toilet to wash away the residue. WD-40

During our research, we analysed Mumsnet forum posts about which limescale removers worked well and which ones were most popular for shower screens, baths, toilets, sinks, washing machines and kettles. Rinse the Viakal off with water on a cloth and for the best shine, buff the tap with a dry microfibre cloth. With just a few minutes of work, your taps will be unrecognisable, and you might even be able to see your reflection!

Any white or copper-coloured markings near home-based water sources are likely to be limescale, particularly if you live in a hard-water region. As we’re sure you know, these stains just don’t seem to budge when using ordinary cleaning products. Limescale leaves an unsightly finish to otherwise clean rooms and appliances, which can even develop into serious plumbing problems down the road, so it’s best to deal with any outbreaks promptly. Just apply under the rim like any other toilet cleaner and leave it to work its magic for five minutes. And don’t forget to open the window or ventilate your bathroom as this product has a strong chemical smell.

Bring the shine back to towel rails and radiators

Fortunately, there are a range of commercial cleaning products and common household products that can deal with these deposits. Commercial limescale removers Flat surfaces are much easier to remove limescale from, which is why baths, showers, sinks and tiles will only need some lemon juice or vinegar applied and some scrubbing on your part. Lemon method: Cut a lemon in half and rub the flesh side onto the limescale-affected part of the taps. Again, leave it to sit for 30 minutes and then scrub it with a sponge to remove the limescale residue. Shower heads
