I need to choose a tripod / head to recommend to a nonprofit organization that I’m helping to develop their in-house video production capabilities. I’m going to recommend the Sony FX6, and either a second FX6 as a B-camera for interviews, or (when they balk at the price) an a7siii or a7iv as B-camera. I’ve had a similar problem before, but this one seems to be determined. Last time I mounted the URSA Mini 4.6K with BMD Shoulder Mount yesterday evening in that marathon shoot, I think the fore and aft camera alignment is incorrect so the VCT projects too far forward; I see maybe a couple of centimeters of the VCT extend forward beyond the shoulder mount. In theory this could work very well and save people hundreds of dollars, however I’ve run into one peculiar issue – the LANC cable! As you know the FX6 uses a 3.5mm LANC cable, like the FX9. I was unaware that the FX6 used a 3.5mm LANC and foolishly didn’t take this into consideration. I was thinking of buying a simple 3.5mm to 2.5mm adapter and then running the extension cable to the rear of the camera – which has a 2.5mm LANC input. I also found the other end of the AC cable missing and thought they had forgotten to put it in my cameras box. It doesn't make any sense to send an AC adapter without the power cable! I just don't get it!I thought I’d ask you if I’m missing anything here, is there a 3.5mm LANC cable extension in existence? I couldn’t find one.
