About this deal

For WAN interfaces, the UDM-Pro has a 10 Gbps SFP+ and a 1 Gbps RJ45 port. For LAN interfaces, the UDM-Pro has a 10 Gbps SFP+, and a 8-port gigabit RJ45 Ethernet switch. Trying to provide high-quality Wi-Fi coverage and performance in a typical home using the single Wi-Fi router/hub provided by broadband providers is an impossible task. While mesh systems such as NETGEAR’s Orbi and BT’s Whole Home Wi-Fi can certainly improve on the typically woefully inadequate range of a single Wi-Fi router, all these systems simply cannot match the performance of a properly configured set of Wi-Fi Access Points that are connected to the router via Ethernet. If you’re wondering how you can avail all the benefits that come with port forwarding, then the following guide is sure to help you out. In this particular guide, we’ll show you how to port forward UDM Pro. Requirements to port forward UDM Pro These act as their own controller and can’t be joined to a Cloud Key or other UniFi Network controller.

Our comprehensive testing shows that the combination of the UDM Pro with several UniFi Access Points (such as the UniFi nanoHD or the new UniFi Wi-Fi 6 products) provides an affordable way to dramatically improve the performance of most home and office broadband/WiFi set-ups. With the UDM Pro, it’s an absolute doddle to set up and optimise your Wi-Fi network. One other note on terminology: you may see “UniFi controller” used. This is a generic term for a device that runs the UniFi Network application. That software configures and monitor UniFi networks.

While options for the configuration and optimisation of UniFi Wi-Fi Access Points are extensive, configuration options for some aspects of router configuration are rather sparse compared with Ubiquiti’s own EdgeRouter series (which does not use the UniFi Controller). So, some users may find it hard to decide between an EdgeRouter device (such as the ER-4), with more extensive configuration options, and the UDM Pro, with significantly greater processing power but with more limited configuration options. Also, we feel the presence of two different systems is rather confusing for users, and we hope that Ubiquiti will migrate its products to a single platform, presumably based on the UniFi Controller. We would like to see Ubiquiti adding additional configuration options to the UniFi Controller, which are currently included in its EdgeRouter products. We could imagine more hidden ‘advanced’ menus working well in the UniFi Controller software.Shattering conventional industry thinking, UniFi Protect provides powerful IP surveillance software without the huge up-front costs or monthly subscription fees. In 2019, the UniFi Dream Machine ( UDM) and UniFi Dream Machine Pro ( UDM-Pro) were released. They were not straightforward replacements for the USG and USG-Pro. Both the UDM-Pro and UDM-SE are great choices as the heart of your home/office network. By not integrating a Wi-Fi Access Point (WAP), you are free to mix and match any number of WAPs as needed. It has similar hardware to the UDM-Pro, without the hard drive bay. The UXG-Pro has two 10 Gbps SFP+ ports, and two 1 Gbps RJ45 ports. It has the same CPU as the UDM-Pro, but half the RAM. It supports dual-WAN configurations, and the same policy-based routing and load balancing options as the Dream Machines. Ubiquiti's UniFi Dream Machine Pro (UDM-Pro) is an all-in-one network appliancefor a scalable network in an office, retail, or hospitality environment.Powered by a fast 1.7 GHz quad-core processor, the UDM Procombines multiple functions into a single device:

Bufferbloat is a little known but widespread issue affecting the vast majority of home (and office) networks, as described in our article Bufferbloat: Why is it harming your broadband and how to easily fix it. Bufferbloat can wreak havoc with even high-speed broadband connections by increasing latency and introducing latency spikes that severely degrade applications that are sensitive to time delays, such as video conferencing (e.g. Zoom and Skype), online gaming and even web browsing. The setup process is similar to other UniFi devices, and can be done through the web GUI or their smartphone app. The UDM-Pro’s default LAN IP adress is 192.168.1.1 Note: Although the cabling can be located outdoors, the UDM-Pro itself should be housed inside a protective enclosure. Connect your computer to one of the 8 Ethernet LAN ports, and assign yourself an IP in the 192.168.1.0/24 subnet (not 192.168.1.1)

Another reason to get the UDM-Pro is if you would rather use a separate PoE switch with more 802.3af ports or a higher wattage. For wireless testing we connected a set of UniFi nanoHD access points to the PoE switch and added them to our cloud account. Once online, they started broadcasting our predefined SSIDs and guest networks, with details automatically appearing in the portal’s wireless experience graph.
