About this deal

However Concept 2 have another cardio machine that has slowly gained both fans and haters. That machine is the SkiErg. It should be noted that the star-driver that came with the box was Concept 2 branded, something small, but goes to show the lengths Concept 2 takes on attention to detail. Both machines offer an intense workout. However it is the rower that will give you a full body workout from head to toe.

The Concept 2 SkiErg is one of the most well-built pieces of equipment available on the market. The attention to detail that Concept 2 has put into this machine is second to none. Given that they’re two different machines that operate in different ways, it perhaps doesn’t seem fair to compare the SkiErg versus the Concept 2 rower-like-for-like in terms of size, but that doesn’t mean that their dimensions don’t matter. The SkiErg is incredibly space efficient With a higher damper setting, it will allow more air into the fan cage. The more air, the more work it takes to spin the flywheel against the air. With more air, it slows the flywheel down faster on the recovery, which will make a person have to pull harder for the next pull. SkiErg machines are one of the lesser-known cardio machines than, say, treadmills or rowing machines, but that’s not to say they’re any less reputable. The reason you may not have heard of a SkiErg is probably because the first one only launched in 2009. For context, the first treadmill was invented in 1952, giving it a 57-year head start. What’s more, SkiErgs were initially only intended for Nordic cross-country skiiers to train when they didn’t have access to a mountain/snow (SkiErg machines mimic the exact same movement used in Nordic skiing, which we’ll explain in a mo).Considering the SkiErg vs Rower comparison, the most distinctive feature of SkiErg is its diversity, including working out big and small muscle groups in one session. While RowErg is an irreplaceable rowing machine for full-body development. Cardio endurance is the obvious one, but SkiErg machines also help you build muscular strength at the same time, as Vincent explains: ‘The SkiErg is an upper-body focused conditioning tool.’ Here are some more reasons you might want to try incorporating a SkiErg into your weekly routine: Rowing is hard, it'll beat you down and have you grasping for air especially if you are doing intervals on it. You might be asking yourself, what exactly is a SkiErg? We don’t blame you! We’ve done the research, so you don’t have to. A SkiErg is a piece of workout equipment that works the arms, legs and core - and it’s ideal for all levels of fitness. The machine was initially designed as a cross-country skiing training tool for Nordic skiers to build and tone their bodies so they can zip through the slopes with ease. In a nutshell, a SkiErg is shorthand for ‘skiing exercise machine’ and, although initially for training purposes, the machine has been adapted to give you a full-body, low-impact workout. If you were to burn 1000 calories running, you’d have huge impact forces through your body and the recovery would take a lot longer. You could easily perform 3-5 rowing workouts per week, burning thousands of calories per week. That is very effective for weight loss.

The ski erg is easy to put together. You can assemble it yourself in about a half hour, and everything you need for assembly comes with the machine. Easy To Use It can help skiers stay in shape during the off-season. The ski erg mimics the motion of Nordic skiing, and the flywheel resistance emulates that of skiing through the snow. It can help skiers maintain their conditioning during warmer months or when they can’t get outdoors.

The SkiErg is often used by multiple users in an indoor environment where the typical ski pole strap would be cumbersome to adjust between users, and difficult to keep clean. To alleviate this, the SkiErg has strapless grips. The “shelf” at the bottom of the grip rests against the heel of your hand similar to how a strap would transfer the load to your hand. The surface of the grip is covered with the same durable material we use on our rowing oar grips. This material has good grip properties and does not absorb water. If you prefer to train with grips with straps, standard Nordic ski pole grips can be adapted to the SkiErg. Why is a rowing company making a SkiErg? It trains both strength and endurance. The flywheel provides varying levels of resistance – the harder you pull, the stronger the resistance. The ski erg also gets your heart pumping and burns many calories (up to 250 in 30 minutes). You get a workout that makes you stronger and improves your cardio simultaneously. The Concept 2 ski erg is worth it if you’re a CrossFitter or a competitive skier looking to keep up with your training in the off-season. It can also be worth it if you’re looking for a unique cardio workout and will actually use it. But for most people, I’d recommend a rower, treadmill, or exercise bike instead. Final Verdict: Should You Buy a Concept 2 Ski Erg? The SkiErg makes the sport of Nordic skiing available to everyone. Long recognized as delivering one of the toughest workouts around, Nordic skiing develops both strength and endurance and exercises the legs as well as the arms and core. The SkiErg can be used for both double pole and classic alternating arm technique.

We first started playing with the idea of a SkiErg in 1982, using parts from our Model A Indoor Rower. Now that you have all the information you need and some workouts to get you started, you’re well on your way to incorporating the SkiErg fitness machine into your normal routine. There’s no better way to experience a full-body, heart-pumping workout for the arms, core and legs than with a session on the SkiErg! What are you waiting for? Sign up for a Village Gym membership and use of this fantastic machine and many others at our state-of-the-art gym facilities.Less taxing than something like a rower (when you build efficiency in the technique) – bike would be the most simple so if your technique is poor, you should probably use the bike for a metabolic response
