As for music, once we’d connected the bar to Wi-Fi using Samsung’s SmartThings app we enjoyed pretty enjoyable tunes sent by AirPlay 2 from an iPad Pro. There’s a wide stereo spread, just a little peakiness on female vocals (that thinning again), and this was accentuated when we tried any sound mode other than Standard. A strong pass here. Of the multiple sound modes, we were generally happiest with 'Standard' (the plain, no-fussin' mode) or 'Adaptive', which tweaks the output based on the type of content it detects. 'DTS Virtual:X' generally felt hollow and unnatural, and the 'Surround' mode for a "wider" sound field just felt unnecessary. The 'Game' mode also didn't generally feel necessary. Object-based Dolby Atmos connects wirelessly with Samsung Soundbar. Experience the ultimate 3D sound whether it be movie or music without the need for HDMI cables. But it's still a problem I have with using the Arc, and might be something that might (fairly) put people with a low-slung TV off the idea of a Dolby Atmos soundbar. If you're looking for a relatively discreet soundbar that still provides a showpiece Dolby Atmos experience, this is absolutely it. There's width, there's height, there's movement in scenes… it really makes the most of object-based audio.

This bar appears in one product video in white; this seems a finish given only to certain retail outlets, and released as the HW-S801B. It seems otherwise identical. But here's the best part about the Samsung HW-S800B: it sounds pretty damn incredible despite being so small. I was worried that the small size of the soundbar working with a subwoofer would mean the sound is top and bottom heavy, without much strength in the mid-range, but that's no problem at all. Hear the location of a helicopter landing or feel the sound of rain falling from above. The S801B combines Dolby Atmos and DTS:X with our highly awarded market leading technology to take your audio-visual experience to the next level. The sounds of sport, music and everything else comes alive in the 3D space that surrounds you, placing you in the heart of the action. Once on Wi-Fi, the bar can be connected to and controlled from Google or Alexa voice assistants, in addition to the little physical remote control, and most likely your TV remote too. that violates any law, statute, ordinance or regulation (including, but not limited to, those governing export control, consumer protection, unfair competition, anti-discrimination or false advertising);

The result is a superb performance with a soundstage that has both width and height, as well as a solid bass foundation that adds overall depth and impact. This makes the Samsung HW-S801B soundbar ideal for music, which is especially useful because you can stream lossless audio over Wi-Fi. During Kylo Ren’s flyby of the bridge in The Last Jedi, the familiar TIE whining noise streaks from left to right near the top of the TV, and then the metal of the ship rumbles and creaks from the after-effect with convincing menace, thanks to the subwoofer. In the Crait battle at the end, the Millenium Falcon arrives with a shadow on the screen, but the engine howls from right up on your ceiling. It has multiple listening modes, including a Night Mode for capping how loud things can be, a DTS Virtual:X mode for upscaling stereo to 3D sound, and a Game mode, among others. It also includes Samsung's SpaceFit tech, which listens to the output of the soundbar and adjust it to compensate for any quirks caused by the layout of your room. It's full across the frequencies, and the bar and subwoofer feel really well-integrated to create a dynamic total sound. The S800B also isn't bad with music – it doesn’t have a music mode, but I enjoyed the standard mode fairly well. However, it doesn’t have quite the same rhythm and energy as the Sonos Arc for music, which is almost certainly down to that slightly tight mid-range.

Terms & Conditions

that is, or may reasonably be considered to be, defamatory, libelous, hateful, racially or religiously biased or offensive, unlawfully threatening or unlawfully harassing to any person or entity; To do this, it includes eight separate speaker drivers in the soundbar unit, and another two in the subwoofer. That's a huge number for the amount of space it takes up, and it explains the quality of the directional audio. Transfer your music with one simple tap. Just tap your smartphone anywhere on the Soundbar to hear the rich sound mirrored without any need for manual pairing straight to your soundbar. It's a similar story with the sound. It does feel like a mild compromise on sound quality in the mid-range to get the soundbar to be this small, but it's only a minor one, and we think it's comfortably balanced out by just how effective its Dolby Atmos height and positioning is. The S800B is designed to deliver 3.1.2 channels of Dolby Atmos or DTS:X audio, which means front, center and right sound, the subwoofer bass channel, and two upfiring Dolby Atmos channels.
