About this deal

As many of the controls of the software (most, really) can’t be controlled from the hardware, you’ll be using the touchscreen quite a lot too, but that’s by design. The Looper performance feature is another big selling point for the Reloop Buddy controller, albeit to a lesser degree than the Neural Mix.

For Android, you’ll need an OTG (“on the go”) power adaptor; you plug the supplied USB-A to USB-B cable between the powered adaptor and the Reloop Buddy, and the appropriate lead (not supplied) between the OTG powered adaptor and your compatible Android device.

You should get an instant answer on whether your application has been successful, though in some rare cases Klarna or V12 may need to look at the application in more detail. This compact and powerful 2-channel DJ controller was designed and developed in close partnership with Algoriddim for the tightest integration possible with their award-winning djay app. Meanwhile, the right side of the better controller unit hosts the master out port, the headphones in port, as well as the headphones mix and master volume controls, with which you can play with. As the controller comes with a USB-B to USB-A converter, you will need to find a USB-C to USB-A converter so the connection can happen.

This is the easiest method and simply requires access to a laptop computer along with the controller and included cables. The Reloop Buddy is a cheap controller aimed at beginner DJ’s who already own an iPad. The chassis is one of the smallest we have seen, measuring in at just 32.5cm wide. Built from plastic, the controller weighs in at an impressive 1kg, making this one of the easiest controllers to travel with, rivalled only by the Pioneer DJ DDJ-200. You’ll simply need to tie your laptop to your Reloop Buddy controller via the USB-A to USB-B cord. You’ll also want to make sure that the left-side switch is moved to “PC” rather than “iOS”. Before you can choose the best micro or mini DJ controller, you first need to understand what a “compact controller”, “micro DJ controller” or “mini controller” actually is. We’ve covered this tech at length on Digital DJ Tips already (including an interview about it with Jazzy Jeff), but as stated in the intro, this is the first time a controller has been released that is mapped to use it out of the box, and that has the correct labelling for the functions, making it easy and intuitive to use. Neural Mix is tightly integrated into the unit, using the three filter/low/high EQ knobs per channel.

The supplied lead is USB-B to USB-A, so to use this, you’ll need to use an iOS/iPadOS male USB-C to female USB-A adaptor, or a suitable USB-B to USB-C lead. Neither are supplied. Mac/Windows The modes include Hot Cue, Auto Loop, Touch FX, Sampler, Slicer, Bounce Loop, Neural Mix and Looper. With the exclusion of slicer, which requires further setting up on the iPad, these functions all work well. The integration with Algoriddim Djay’s display however could heavily be improved upon. In use, it’s fine. The effects are fast to select and to use in your mixing, although it does help to have the effects windows open on your software, otherwise you’ll be operating them blind. (You do this via the touchscreen.) Performance pads I’m not sure what is gained by doing it this way; I just find it cumbersome. Without the slip function, slicer is practically useless (slicer presupposes slip), so why not just have it on as soon as you use it? 6. Bounce loop

After switching to “PC”, you’ll then need to plug the controller in. It will require using Buddy’s USB-B port to connect with the mobile device. Finally, if you don’t want to connect to a mobile device, you can always use the tried and true method of connecting with your laptop computer. We mentioned it a bit earlier, but the performance pads on the Reloop Buddy DJ Pro are, while certainly small, surprisingly not only accessible on this controller but accessible. Instead of relying too heavily on its hardware (as is the case for most controllers), you’ll instead find yourself leaning much more heavily on its software, playing and experimenting with the different options offered, determining which one works best for you and your DJing style. Software: Your micro DJ controller needs to work perfectly with the software you prefer to use. There are tons of great options out there, including Serato, Traktor, Virtual DJ, and many others. The one you choose is likely to be a matter of personal preference.

When it comes to quality two-channel controllers, even when you’re dealing with an entry-level setup, there are a few areas that you’ll need to constantly think about, focus on, and consider. There are two effects engines in djay Pro, each with three “manual effects”, but these knobs and buttons only control the top effect of each pair of three, and whatever you select is duplicated across the pair. That all makes sense, and is similar to how most such controllers implement these types of effects nowadays – keeping it simple.A DJ micro-controller is a smaller version of a traditional controller, designed for portable use. Micro DJ controllers generally include many of the same features as your standard controller, but they may be pared down slightly for size purposes. You can find the following components on DJ microcontrollers:
