About this deal

Alternatively, if you haven’t time to do that or if you have difficulty in this process, you can start with Pros-Aide Cream, which already has the water removal done for you. You may notice a significant price difference between the two kinds and think the runny one is going to be substantially cheaper, but when you factor in the weight loss in the liquid kind during the evaporation, and work out the final volume, allowing for the time and labour it takes to do this yourself, you may be surprised to find that it actually works out fairly equitably, given the convenience. APPLICATION: The pieces are applied with Pros-Aide or Telesis 5, and the edges melted onto the skin with 99% Isopropyl Alcohol. They can be applied right from the flexible mould for a perfect finish or removed from the mould and stored on boards or foam sheets. If applying right from the mould, work your way from one side to the other, gluing as you go to aid correct placement. Remove one edge of cap-plastic flashing from the mould and powder your way across. Medical adhesives, like the Kryolan Extra Strength Medical Adhesive shown here, are also perfect for sensitive skin. By using Prosaide Cream without extra effort to remove water content, you risk potential issues in drying and more shrinkage than is desirable. Allergies involve the immune system, and are much more serious. I have not had anyone truly allergic to the materials used when wearing prosthetic makeups, only irritated with some adhesives requiring us to change products.

These silicone/solvent glues tend to cost more, as the hoops that manufacturers have to jump through to get a skin-safe material out to market mean a lot of extra work. Isopropyl Alcohol used for cleaning your prosthetic appliance before use and to activate paint palettes. Also used for dissolving edges when encapsulated with Super Baldiez You won’t need your entire kit on set, but there are still a set of comprehensive tools and products you may want located in your kit, ready for all and any applications. When choosing a board it should be a textured laminate, NOT a perfectly smooth surface, to help give realistic micro-textured edges to the pieces. There are a number of adhesives and removers designed applying prosthetics to skin, and it can seem confusing when you start looking. But Spirit Gum does pose one main problem. It never works for me as a long lasting prosthetic adhesive. Also, thinning the adhesives down so the bond strength is appropriately reduced is helpful. In the case of water based acrylic adhesives, a 10-50% solution of water will do it. Since the foundation too yellow for her complexion, Brittany used an alcohol activated paint to color correct and to make the prosthetic look more realistic. Real skin has a variety of shades, so she added "texture" using the spattering technique. Hi Scott. The main issue with Third degree or other silicone pastes is that they are not typically soft enough to be able to keep up with the flexible skin. Like a band aid popping off a bent knee or elbow, the skin is so much more flexible and stretched in use that the pieces need to be as soft as the skin on which they sit. To have a ‘stiffer than skin’ appliance means the bond of any glue is heavily tested, and sweat will only help to undo the effects of adhesive making it come away. If applying over hair, it may need flattening down first. Arm hair for example is usually thin enough to stay down with the glue used to apply the appliance, but eyebrows may need gluing down flat first.

Using a food dehydrator is recommended. It is possible to let pieces dry at ambient room temperature, this will take much, much longer, but also runs the risk of surface contamination and success is dependant upon local temperatures and humidity. First, make sure you have covered costume or clothing with towels, cape or paper roll of some type. This is usually then end of a long day, so removal is happening when you may be at your most tired and ready to get to bed. Make sure the sloppiness and spills are protected against before you start. Skin effects e.g. scab paste, wound filler, fresh scratch, pus, vomit, chapped lips, rigid collodion, old age stipple Bondo / Cab-O-Patch cab-o-sil and pros-aide cream/filler – used to fill air bubbles, or to help correct edges The Telsis glue you mentioned, is it 5, 7 or 8? I ask because PPI have an acryic adhesive called Beta Bond which confusingly has the word ‘Telesis’ on it – that isn’t going to bond to a silicone surface such as Third Degree. If Telesis 5, 7 or 8 won’t do it, then the glue isn’t the issue.Dirt Sprays / Palette matching colours to the powders, provides an alternative application – can be thinned for a rivering through the pores/wrinkles look. That’s enough to cover tons of applications, so that one bottle can last someone like me many, many months. Occasionally bubbles will appear even at lower drying temperatures, and even when no direct airflow is on the surface of the piece. In these cases it seems most likely that the mixture contained too much remaining water and would be better off dried very slowly at room temperature. Here’s the basics, but for a proper tutorial I recommend you get yourself one of the excellent instructional books and dvds that are available. Todd has helpfully posted a How-to for 3D Prosthetic Transfers, with pics, in the Photos section on this group.

Both kinds are easy to apply and both when done well are indistinguishable from skin under close examination…will stand up well to HD and feature film demands.

You can also use PVP/VA Copolymer (70% Polyvinylpyrrolidone & 30%Vinyl Alcohol). You can find it at just about any place that sells supplies to make home made lotions, makeup, hairspray, among other things.”
