About this deal

Marty doesn't have a lot, he's not one of the 'new trainer kids' at school who make his life miserable. He doesn't have any real friends and so spends most of his time alone or with his Grandad on his allotment. So when Marty meets Gracie, a girl from his school, they soon realise that they are both 'outsiders'; neither fitting in with the 'in-crowd' at school and both left largely to their own devises at home. This rather unusual friendship gradually evolves and allows the two children to find their way. If none of the below helps, please report in the comments and include your seed, platform and version, and coordinates. Common user errors Marty doesn't have much. Unlike his mum, who has billions of things: newspapers, holey shoes, rusty lawnmowers, broken picture frames - she keeps EVERYTHING! It's hard to leave the house. Marty does his best to look after her and wonders if anything will ever change. But on Marty's birthday, Grandad, with a glint in his eye, gifts Marty a very special seed. Grandad hasn't been this excited since he invented the bum scratcher 2000 or thought he'd brewed wonder fuel from rhubarb leaves! The seed grows bigger and bigger, and launches Grandad, Marty and his best friend Gracie on an impossible, wondrous plan fuelled by love, hopes and dreams. Multi-award-winning and bilingual novelist Caryl Lewis is no stranger to the written word, with Seed – her latest tale and debut children’s novel– set to capture young hearts everywhere. So, how has writing for a younger generation compared to other creative ambitions and triumphs?

The plant may benefit from occasional watering if rainfall drops below one inch per week. This heartwarming, witty and touching story is all about hope and belief . . . An absolute delight.' – Daily Mail With Gracie, it was more about representation. I think representation is often reserved for minor characters and I think that it’s unfair. I wanted her to be rounded, to be funny and cheeky and talented.” Marty doesn't have much. Unlike his mum, who has billions of things: newspapers, holey shoes, rusty lawnmowers, broken picture frames – she keeps EVERYTHING! It's hard to leave the house. Marty wonders if anything will ever change.Marty didn’t get many presents, and since the house had started filling, Marty didn’t really care for “stuff,” but it was nice that Grandad had remembered. Conveniently, this plant will also self-seed. So, if you’re hoping to expand the plant, it will do the work for you without causing a disturbance in your garden. Overwintering All right, Marty boy?” Grandad flashed his toothy grin and passed him a mug of tea so sweet you could live off it for a week. With Lewis’ successes in fiction (in both Welsh and English languages), what advice does she give to anyone thinking of writing their own work of children’s literature? “It’s such a tempting thing to try and fit in, to emulate other people’s success. To write a certain type of book that you think will suit. My advice is to be yourself. Be honest and embrace what’s inside of you. You won’t go far wrong.” Marty’s seed is a mystery waiting to root and grow into something marvellous. But has Lewis ever dreamt of growing something fantastical from a seed? “I love gardening,” she says, “and am currently trying a grow a ginormous pumpkin! I’ll let you know how it goes!”

Not compared to Marty’s mum. Marty’s mum had billions of things. Billions and trillions and infinity of them. I mean, I’d make a list, but even if you lived to be a hundred, I don’t think that you’d ever finish reading it, because Marty’s mum kept everything. Newspapers and holey shoes and rusty lawn mowers and unread books and broken picture frames and, well, EVERYTHING. When she used to be able to leave the house, she could never pass a dumpster on the side of the road without reaching in and bringing something home, and she got really stamp-footed and scared if you tried to throw anything away. Marty blushed. He thought everyone had forgotten. His mum hadn’t said anything this morning. Even he had tried to forget for most of the day too. Author Anna Kemp introduces The Hollow Hills, the sequel to her dark magical tale, Into Goblyn Wood. Curriculum links: family, wellbeing, mental health, bullying, belonging, hearing impairment, hope, perseverance and friendship. I hadn't read a book with a deaf person as one of the main characters before and it made me think about lots of things I just take for granted. I love Gracie's courage - she goes for her goals and I wish I was a little bit more like her.' C aged 10

Marty sat down quietly and shrugged. Now, Grandad was always sparkly-eyed but today he was fizzing inside about something. This wasn’t entirely unusual, because Grandad had a history of getting very excited about strange things. Such as the time he thought he had brewed a new wonder fuel from rhubarb leaves and wanted to call NASA, and the time he built an automatic slug squisher out of six pairs of old boots and an old vacuum cleaner, oh, and the time he built the bum scratcher 2000, and an automatic tea stirrer 250, which worked so well it stirred and stirred Marty’s mug of tea until it started sloshing from side to side more and more violently and suddenly flew off sideways in a spray of scalding liquid, forcing them both to throw themselves on the ground for fear of burning themselves. Today though, Marty could tell that something else was up.If you started your world on an older version, you'll have to switch between the versions in the app. Always select the version that was used to generate the chunks you're looking at. Coastlines This has got to be one of the best books I've read in ages! Seed by Caryl Lewis has everything; family, friendship, laughter, tears, mystery and adventure; an absolutely brilliant read for a confident reader and a fabulous story to listen to if your reading is not quite at this level, yet! Publisher Macmillan claims, 'Seed is where the heart in Wonder meets the humour of The Super Miraculous Journey of Freddie Yates', and having read and thoroughly enjoyed both of these books, I knew it had a lot to live up to.
