She's honest, but she's also been broken too many times and it shows. I mean, she went through so much, so it's not surprising her personality took over. I’ve never written a review but I had to for this. I’ve never read something that took so many important things from other author’s books and added to their own. Yes I know fantasy books have roughly the same themes but this took things to a completely different level. When Harlows dad suddenly passes, she is tossed into this underground world where The Lords of Darkness have fought against the crimes of England for decades. The Lords are a group of 5 people from 5 different prominant house in England. Harlow bravely takes her younger brothers spot to save him from this life of crime and murder. Unable to let go of her old life Harlow fights against the other 4 Lords and even plans their death.....unsuccessfully. When Harlow is stolen by a rival gang the Lords threaten to burn a city to the ground to find her. The couple and inner circle go out to the city for dinner and dancing where she gets to know him more Overall I would definitely recommend this completely led duet. While I enjoyed this book overall, there are still aspects that I feel we could have ventured into that were left open

Im sorry, the story just didnt do it for me. It was a nice premise and interesting idea but it just wasn’t executed well because…well…it wasn’t executed that much? I shall be whomever I need to be to get information from him,” Scarlett answered darkly. “Not that it’s any of your business.” And yes, this book does have similarities with ToG/ACOTAR, but to me, they're not as annoying as other books I've read. Maybe because the plot isn't clear yet and all the similarities lie with character attributes and tropes, and it's just a few.Y’all, the Lady of Darkness series has everything you could want in a fantasy romance. It’s got fae, gods, magic, mistaken identity and the most amazing slow burn romance. Our MMC is ::sigh:: one of my favorites of all the best out there. Our FMC, Scarlett is guarded and stabby but who can blame her with all of the trauma she’s been through. Her character growth throughout this series is amazing. The way Melissa writes mental health and found family is so heart-achingly beautiful. These characters allow each other to go through all the emotions of heartbreak and grief and you just fall in love with every imperfectly perfect side of them. I know 5 books can seem daunting but each book is a gem and you won’t regret it. This series is complete so even if the cliffhangers blow your mind, closure is just the next book away!

I wish author focused more on some sensory feelings during sex rather than just sounds or dirty talk or the act itself. I could go on at greater length about the many beauties of the novel--the sharp yet affectionate portraits of the tenants, the love for good books, good conversation, and good music displayed throughout, etc.--but I suspect you would enjoy them better if you discovered them for yourself. Then at the end idk she has a literal psychotic break because Sorin has not had the chance to tell her every single thing about his past. If she trusts him so much she won't kill him, give the man the damn chance to explains things in time without the dramatics. Even after Harlow failed at her secret little mission, they never once thought about leaving her unprotected. Did they make her pay? Yup and not even in the way you would think. After years of being comfortable in the silence Harlow surrounded herself in, she wasn’t prepared for THEIR silence. It was genius on their part.Megapolisomancy,” as its Classical roots suggest, is the practice of the particular form of magic which can unleash the power of a great metropolis. The inventor of the term, the fictional author Thibaut de Castries, maintains that the large concentrations of stone, concrete, and metal contained in such cities, combined with electricity and other fuels, constitute a great reservoir of energy which is organized by the grid pattern of the streets and heightened by the shapes and heights of particular buildings, which--properly manipulated--may evoke powerful occult forces. These forces, Westen suspects, are intensifying this very minute, and they are centered in his San Francisco neighborhood--perhaps in his very own apartment building. This is a high fantasy romance with all the creatures I love reading about, fae, shifters, creatures of the night (AKA, vampires), witches and humans. There is beautiful and complex world-building, with a rich history between Kings and Queens of different kingdoms and also has it's own set of gods and goddesses which I always love and absolutely devour. I also really enjoyed the magic systems. This world has various different types of magic, from elemental magic, to spellcasting, to more mysterious and obscure powers we're left guessing about. It's such a cool world and the author does a fantastic job constructing it all in detail. It's exactly what I wanted when I started it. If I were to answer this question with a simple yes or no, I would say no. BUT, from the dialogue and the drizzle of spice (at least in one scene) I have a hunch that the books will get more spicy as things progress.

She also HATES the fire prince for killing her mom. she we don't even know why she thinks the fire prince killed her mom. this book was okay. the smut was my favorite part of it. it’s sad that not many authors include mm relationships into rh books. what i didn’t like - in both of their “missions” fmc was made into a helpless princess in distress waiting for guys to help her. at the end of the book it said that she became this badass lady who terrified everyone but we didn’t see it in the book. I do recommend waiting on reading this book when the new format is out, since there's quite a lot of typos, extra words and some sentences don't flow as nicely as they should! Scarlett learns of so much. Be it history isn't always honestly written, or the fact that she's not who she thinks she is.

See a Problem?

Scarlett was raised by a cruel Assassin Lord and has been trained to kill and torture. After a mission gone wrong results in the death of one of her sisters, she refuses to cooperate with her Master and is sequestered in a local Lord’s house until she falls in line. When the Assassin Lord offers her long coveted information in exchange for her compliance with his demands, she must make a choice whether to kill for him again or be forced into obedience through a different kind of torture. Life becomes even more complicated when the General of the king’s army offers his help in solving a mystery involving innocent children and she can’t decide whether or not to trust him. With the worst of choices before her, Scarlett feels the darkness overwhelming everything and when even more mysteries come to light she must choose to hope when it feels like everything is lost. Moreover, the men once again are ruthless killers, criminals and vigilantes or whatever, which seeps into the way they treat the female MC, but not nearly enough. In most parts it's not justified why they are being so nice to her. But I don't want to be only the problem person, I like to be the solution person. The book, especially with this lore should have much more torture, orgasm deprivation, interrogation(s), assault and/or rape. You can't have a dark romance with a female MC that likes everything. That lightens it immediately. Lady of Shadows” is the second novel in the “Lady of Darkness” series and was released in 2021. Show me your darkness, and she’ll show you hers. The shadows are calling, and the stars are fading. The darkness threatens it all. Our Lady of Darkness (1977) is an urban fantasy novel by American author Fritz Leiber. The novel is distinguished for three elements: the heavily autobiographical elements in the story, the use of Jungian psychology that informs the narrative, and its detailed description of "Megapolisomancy", a fictional occult science. It was originally published in shorter form as "The Pale Brown Thing" ( Magazine of Fantasy and Science Fiction, January/February 1977).
