About this deal

There are boxes and bags of powders that contain a ‘magic’ ingredient with a claim that it will accelerate the composting process, but do they really? I’ve used one of these accelerators called ‘Garotta’ but I’m a little mystified about what is actually in it and what is a compost accelerator?

It contains microbial feed which gives microbes a boost of immediately available nutrients. This microbe food speeds up the process of decomposition. Can refer to either home-made garden compost or seed/potting compost: • Garden compost is a soil improver made from decomposed plant waste, usually in a compost bin or heap. It is added to soil to improve its fertility, structure and water-holding capacity. Seed or potting composts are used for growing seedlings or plants in containers - a wide range of commercially produced peat-free composts are available, made from a mix of various ingredients, such as loam, composted bark, coir and sand, although you can mix your own. compost in your own garden. This avoids environmental costs in terms oftransport or industrial processing, and you end up with a free, sustainable compost that will benefit your soil and plants. The last civilian executions in Spain, both by garroting, were those of the poisoner Pilar Prades in May 1959 and the spree killer José María Jarabo in July 1959. Recent legislation had caused many crimes (such as robbery–murder) to fall under the jurisdiction of military law; thus, prosecutors rarely requested civilian executions. Military executions were still performed in Spain until the 1970s. The garrotings of Heinz Chez (real name Georg Michael Welzel) and Salvador Puig Antich in March 1974, both convicted in the Francoist State of killing police officers, were the last state-sanctioned garrotings in Spain and in the world. This is a new term introduced by SoilFixer. During composting, compounds known as humus (or colloidal humus) are formed. These compounds are the real active items in compost (read here). Typically compost contains less than 1-5% of these valuable compounds. A humification agentincreases the amount of colloidal humus in your final compost typically to 15-30%.The best location for a compost bin is a sheltered spot in partialor full shade, to avoid extremes of temperature and moisture. The micro-organisms (bacteria and fungi) that convert the waste into compost work best in constant conditions. So if you have an under-used shady corner in your garden, a compost bin will turn it into a productive hub. Just make sure you can get to the bin easily, otherwise you won’t use it regularly. Garden compost piles are a great source of minerals and nutrients necessary for plant growth. The process may take longer due to an unbalanced carbon to nitrogen ratio. Composters are a great way to reduce food waste while simultaneously benefitting your garden. They are both compact and mess-free as they keep any materials that you add to them inside the composter until the compost is ready to use. Adding organic matter to your soil helps to improve its health and structure by letting it retain additional nutrients and moisture. Using compost in your garden also means that you’re less likely to need to add fertilisers and pesticides to your soil and plants. This probably won’t happen straight away and you don’t want it all to drop at once. A gradual drop bit by bit will allow air to get at every piece. After a short while the contents will drop down and everything in the bin will have been aerated. This process can happen every time you take a small amount of compost from the bottom of the bin and will allow for more space at the top for fresh waste to be added.

If you are looking to make the decomposition process of organic material faster, then a compost starter or accelerator could prove useful. If you have never heard of a compost starter/accelerator, it is simply a blend that gets the composting process going and then speeds up the process. But there is such a thing as a good and a bad compost starter and accelerator. Keep reading to find out more about this product and which are the best and worst. Notable people executed by garroting [ edit ] Execution by garrote in Spain Execution by garrote to a murderer in Barcelona Name Don’t worry about getting a complete mix the day you build your pile, because hot compost is forked and turned again and again. Go for building a sizeable heap instead, because large heaps heat up better than small ones. A hot composting project that starts out at least 3 feet (1 metre) tall and wide will usually give good results. A metal stake installed in the middle of a new hot composting project can serve as a rustic heat gauge you can feel with your hand, plus you can wiggle it to aerate the pile. How and When to Turn a Hot Compost Pile Minerals: Rich in phosphorus, potassium, and copper, mushrooms are a great source of minerals. Research has found that mushrooms contain more potassium than a glass of orange juice. When you add mushrooms to your pile, these minerals become part of it. You later add the decayed matter to your plants, feeding them with these vital minerals. To activate means to start, to get a reaction going. A compost activator should therefore help get things started. There are several types of activators and we go through each below. The bacteria and micro-organisms that produce the compost work best when the balance of green and brown materials is correct. As a rough guide:
