About this deal

HDMI ARC. A very welcome feature for people like me who’s system doubles as their audio for their tv. Also I’m hoping for the ability to display album art on the tv as well through ARC. Once again a feature a lot of people could care less about, but one that I would like. Characteristics: Frequency response: 20Hz~20KHz (±0. 2dB), Dynamic range: > 124dB, SNR: >124dB, THD+N: <0.00011%(-119dB)@A-WT, Crosstalk: >-124dB The DMP-A6 is equipped with a third-generation XMOS 316 USB interface ensuring perfect reception and decoding of the USB audio stream. This supports audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and MQA. For optical ports (Coaxial and Toslink), they support DSD 64 (DoP) and PCM 192 24Bit. Firstly, an HDMI ARC input – which I believe is near-essential on products of this stripe. Eversolo has also upgraded the USB input to XMOS Gen 3 and the Bluetooth 5.0 input is marshalled by Qualcomm’s QCC5125 chip to support LDAC, aptX HD, aptX LL, aptX, AAC and (of course) SBC.

it is equally adept with displaying intimacy so that the very human scale of the recording is retained. Eversolo presents with its DMP-A6 MASTER EDITION a streamer as powerful as it is intuitive and stylish. It will allow you to stream your music with ease while enjoying excellent sound quality, all controlled via a high-quality LCD screen and an ergonomic interface or from a dedicated mobile application. The DMP-A6 Master Edition can be controlled from a smartphone or tablet using the free Eversolo Controller mobile app. This will allow you to simply access your music while enjoying a remote interface for easy use from your sofa. Specifications Model Play Circling by Four Tet and the DMP-A6 does a decent job of detail retrieval, with precise edges to notes and all the instruments relayed in an organised manner. SuperShy by NewJeans shines through in all its sparkly, K-Pop glory, while Marlon Williams’ smooth, melodious vocals come through cleanly on Strange Things– all in a rather pleasing way that’s nice to listen to. A simple volume dial with a subtle LED glow around it completes the front panel. We like how you can control the brightness of the screen and the LED dial ring in varying increments. It’s a nice little touch in a product full of thoughtful little extras. Another extra feature? You can choose various spectrum visualisers or VU meter displays to be shown on screen – or neither – to add a layer of interest and retro charm to your streamer.

Overall thoughts

Sound(overall)These impressions were done with the DAC-Z8 connected to the SMSL SP400 headphone amp via XLR. While I’m treating this a DAC first over DAC/amp combo, I will mention the amp section later on.This is what the DAC-Z8 sounds like with the current headphone/IEM inventory I have on hand. Things like headphone pairings or different headphone amps will produce different results and impressions versus what my ears hear on my specific gear. It has the control and agility to deliver... exactly the right level of intensity...the DMP-A6 would be comfortable fronting a very capable digital-only system if you need it too. The transport functionality is arguably even more impressive. The DMP-A6 Master Edition is equipped with a third-generation XMOS 316 USB interface ensuring perfect reception and decoding of the USB audio stream. This supports audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz, DSD up to DSD512 and MQA. For optical ports (Coaxial and Toslink), they support DSD 64 (DoP) and PCM 192 24Bit. I will say this right off the bat. I’ve heard a good amount of ES9038 DACs and I’ve come to the conclusion that designs with a really good implementation of a ES9038PRO or any ESS DAC will almost always have very little to no “Sabre Glare” that a lot of ESS DACs are known for in the audio community. That’s not to say that “Sabre Glare” is bad but that those who steer away from ESS DACs for that reason might want to give something like the DAC-Z8 a try.

I side-loaded smart tube and now can get add free music videos on screen, can cast to phone and amazingly mirror to tv. It’s a damn good piece of kit for the price and wouldn’t look out of place in a top end, multi thousand pound system unlike the FiiO R7 which looks like it should be in a radio hams hut scanning police frequencies.Characteristics: Frequency response: 20Hz~20KHz(±0. 15dB), Dynamic range: > 128dB, SNR: >128dB, THD+N: <0.00009%(-120dB) @A-wt, Crosstalk: >-125dB

Most striking of all, the preliminary photos suggest that the DMP-A8 will be a full-width hi-fi component. This unit runs off a standard IEC cable, but the internal switch-mode power supply has a few tweaks to keep any mains noise at bay. This includes a choke filter alongside audio-grade components and it’s nice to see they didn’t forget the smaller details. You can also easily run your CD player or other digital transport into the DMP-A6 and take advantage of the exceptionally clean internal DAC and pre-amp circuits. It works very well as a digital hub for streaming and DAC duties and is excellent as part of a headphone system running it into an external headphone amplifier. The DMP-A6 is compatible with most streaming services and you can get these playing with ease. Switching to the digital inputs is also easy from the internal menu system or the app. There is a new Bluetooth remote that has also been released, allowing for easier control when sat further away from the unit.

FAQs

Eversolo gives us XLR and RCA analog outputs which are selectable via software. This is handy for those with desktop systems where one output feeds a headphone amplifier, the other goes to active speakers, and the user can choose which one (or both) is live at any given time. On the digital input side, we get RCA, Toslink, USB, and Bluetooth with support for aptX HD and LDAC among others. It’s not quite the largest array of inputs you’ll find on a device of this size, but likely adequate for the needs of most users even if this was purely a “traditional” DAC. The Eversolo DMP-A6 is a network audio streamer. We’ll cover the spec at length (and I’ll tell you now, it does a fair bit) but the most important thing to convey about the DMP-A6 is not what it is but what it isn’t. Eversolo is not a completely new company. It is a wing of Zidoo which has supplied a wide ranging set of components to us over the years. All of those devices; even the very audio orientated Neo S and Neo Alpha players, have video functionality built into their hardware. This is slightly niche but potentially very handy; if you want one box to handle everything, those two devices are extremely capable. Neither am I done with the comparisons to the Neo Stream. I maintain that iFi has the best affordable MQA decoding in the industry but the DMP-A6 runs it very close which makes it a formidable option for Tidal Connect. There’s a certain irony that, just as MQA’s future is looking uncertain, hardware is hitting the market that manages to overcome some of my earlier reservations about how it sounds but, whatever happens, the DMP-A6 has you usefully covered in this regard.

the results are spectacular... exceptional detail retrieval an an extremely even presentation... is a streamer that simply gets out of the way of the music being played.

Accessories and unboxing

The audio decoding of the DMP-A6 is entrusted to two ESS ES9038 Q2M DAC chips, a high-performance model widely recognized by audiophiles. It also supports high-resolution audio streams up to PCM 32bit 768kHz and DSD512, as well as decoding of MQA files. LCD Touch Screen Decoding is also recognisably related to what has gone before but, at the price that the Eversolo enters the market, it feels impressive. The DMP-A6 uses a pair of ES9038Q2M DACs which means that its fully balanced section is able to run with each channel being able to sum the negative and positive signal which is reasonably unusual at the price. Unbalanced RCA connections are also available and everything is powered by a low noise switching power supply that has been engineered with choke filters for additional noise rejection. Clean, crisp, and detailed sound with a slightly forward presentation.
