About this deal

AOC’s updated double-wide AG493UCX2 could appeal to some, but there are too many incompatibility issues for it to be a solid recommendation The AOC AG493UCX2 also supports Picture by Picture, which along with the integrated KVM functionality allows you to connect two PC to the screen, display them side by side, and use a single set of keyboard/mouse to control both PCs.

Even the lowest level of High Dynamic Range (HDR) feature poses a significant upgrade to common monitors. The peak luminance of 400 cd/m² enables your display to hone the picture quality with a manifold colour spectrum and more diverse contrast. The VESA-certificate ensures richness of detail and realistic portrayals of game and film worlds. I have a gaming / streaming setup.. so I had three monitors, on top of alot of equipment on my desk. Though it is a 49 inch monitor, it comfortably fits on a desk, as long as you take your time and patience to place it correctly. To use KVM on more than one device, you’ll need to use USB-C on one device and the USB upstream on the other. Without a USB-C connection, you’ll need to swap the upstream cable between PCs.The storage humidity shows the lower and upper humidity limit, which ensures safe storage of the display. Storing it outside these limits might damage the display. Approximate width of the display. If the manufacturer does not provide such information, the width is calculated from the diagonal and the aspect ratio. The storage temperature shows the range from a minimum to a maximum temperature, within which storing of the display is considered to be safe.

Information of the number of pixels in a unit of length. With the decrease of the display size and the increase of its resolution, the pixel density increases. As with the old model, the AG493UCX2 is excellent when used with DisplayPort, but there are too many limitations if that is not going to be your primary display connection. Panel uniformity is better than I expected for a display of this size. There are a few hotspots where brightness and contrast exceed the nominal limits, but for the most part, it’s in the green.

To eliminate stutter and tearing, both models support Adaptive-Sync. They are certified with VESA DisplayHDR 400, decoding and displaying high dynamic range with richer colours (89% AdobeRGB, 91% DCI-P3 and 120% sRGB gamut coverage2 for AG493UCX2), suited for content creation. To deliver on all fronts, both models are also equipped with massive and sturdy metal stands with 100 mm height as well as tilt and swivel adjustments. Two 5W speakers in both models also create a rich stereo sound stage. The dynamic contrast shows the ratio between the brightest and the darkest color, which the display can reproduce over time, for example, in the course of playing a video. Another interesting feature, which is hidden in the ‘Eco Mode’ along with some other presets (Movie, Game, Sports, etc.) is the Uniformity Mode – it improves brightness and color temperature uniformity across the screen at a cost of overall picture brightness and contrast ratio. Besides the standard image settings (brightness, contrast, color temperature), the AGON AG493UCX2 offers aspect ratio control, three gamma presets and automatic input selection.I had considered the Samsung G9 but for that price and the fact that I like play with setting turned up I knew I would never get close to that frame rate and have no interest in spending thousands to trying to game at 240 fps using ridiculously high settings. If it were really into first person shooters I might feel differently. Information about the maximum vertical viewing angle, within which the image on the screen is of acceptable quality. Of course, you can get a much better HDR gaming monitor at this price range, but the AOC AG493UCX2 focuses on other things. Another constant niggle I had was when switching display inputs, as it takes a painfully long time to switch, often in excess of 12 seconds. I also had issues with the AG493UCX2 not switching on automatically with an HDMI source. It can take over 20 seconds to activate the screen from standby (compared to 1 to 3 seconds with most other AOC panels), which makes it frustrating when it doesn’t turn on at all, as you have to wait just in case it’s dragging its heels. The issue is, with USB set to "auto" in the settings, it maps the USB B+ USB A connector to ALL DVI and HDMI displays while USB C apparently will not be auto-mapped. This means that the AUTO setting is functionally useless. You can set it manually to USB C, but this means you'll need to do this every time you switch which device you're using.

I bought this primarily for playing racing and flight sims primarily wanting something with a wider field of view than my 32 inch 4k monitor. So far I love the monitor, setup was simple enough, works great with both my windows PC and my M1 MacBook pro. The MacBook will only allow me to set the correct resolution 5120 X 1440 through the display port on my doc, it doesn’t work correctly via thunderbolt which isn’t a huge deal but the KVM switch only works between my windows pc and Mac via the thunderbird bolt port so I’ll be trying to work around that little issue. However, we recommend the LG 49WQ95C instead if you can find it at a good price. It offers better image quality, performance, features and value for the price. Specifications Screen SizeFinally, if you don’t need a KVM or USB-C, we recommend the Samsung Odyssey G9 for gaming and the Samsung Odyssey Neo G9 for HDR, as far as 32:9 ultrawide monitors go. You should also consider the Dell AW3423DWF with a 21:9 OLED panel.
