About this deal

One of the biggest differences between the Start and Create pen is that the Start is powered by battery. The last challenge comes in switching colors. If I removed a plastic strand and put in a new one of a different color, the two colors mixed. When I switched from ABS red to PLA white, the resulting extrusion was very light pink for almost the entire white strand. The only way I found to avoid this is to remove the loaded plastic and then continue using the pen so you can finish up the part that remains in the tip. But you’ll just end up wasting plastic if you need to move to a new color immediately. Using the included stencils I doodled 20 individual pieces with ABS and PLA plastic. I then assembled the pieces with clear PLA plastic, which was a bit more malleable, at times falling through the gaps instead of bridging them together. The 3Doodler Create 2.0 has a button on the side for controlling the filament speed. Both 3D printing beginners and experts will enjoy working with this pen. Control - For more precise and intricate designs, you need to be able to control your pen. Look for a pen that you can control the temperature and speed of and which features an adjustable product flow so that you can regulate the rate if you are more advanced and confident operating your pen. Just starting out, you might prefer to go for something with a continuous flow option so that you can focus on your technique and getting used to using and controlling the pen itself. Intelligent controls will become more valuable, the more advanced your method and skill level becomes.

I enjoyed the range of filament colors (there's even a clear plastic one, which looks sweet) but you can't really change them out until you use the current filament up or reverse it out of the pen, which is time-consuming. I found it easier to create designs with just one or two colors. They are great fun for children to play with, although you need to be careful that the plastic filament gets used wisely, or you could end up spending a lot of cash on just filament refills. Design: The 3D pen features a new nozzle design that produces crispier doodles and performs better. The pen is less noisy, smooth and easy to operate. The pen comes with 50 filaments of plastic in various colors that equal 400 feet of plastic. You power up the pen and then wait for it to heat up before using it. This process takes about 60 to 90 seconds. A light switches from red to green when it's ready to go. I recommend new users to keep it on the slow setting until you feel comfortable using it, as once it starts extruding, it won't stop until you switch it off. This makes precision a bit difficult to achieve as starting and stopping the extrusion isn't instantaneous, and you have to keep your finger on the button to be able to stop on command.

The pen heats up to extremely hot degrees to melt the filament. If you are not careful, you can end up burning your fingers. Make sure you donít let children below 12 years play with the 3D pen. Older children can be allowed to use the pen with adult supervision. When it comes to performance, we tested both quite rigorously and found that the Start+ pen was easier to use than the Create. The 3Doodler pens are ideal for creating some basic arts and crafts projects, especially when you are just trying out a few new designs. Fashion Design You can then easily draw the plastic on paper, glass, metal or other surfaces. This concept is similar to that of a hot glue gun, just with thinner, colored filament. The 3Doodler Create 2.0 design has been improved to a sleek, shiny metal look. The 3D pen weighs 1.8 ounces, is much slimmer and looks like the conventional pens. The slimmer body allows a firm grip, enabling you to create and excellent doodles and drawings. A flexible rubbery grip at the tip makes the pen easy to hold. As you can see from their different designs, the Create and Start are directed at slightly different age groups.

Both the Create+ and the Start+ 3D pens have a button that allows you to control the flow of the filament. Since 1982, PCMag has tested and rated thousands of products to help you make better buying decisions. Its hands-free design thanks to the battery-powered system allows you to draw freely, and you are not stopped by a wire like with the Create+.
