About this deal

The most unusual feature (though not for Worx) involves pushbutton conversion from trimming to wheeled edging. Trimmer/edgers are built for keeping the edges of the lawn tidy, and weeding spaces where you would be spending hours on your hands and knees and returning to do it again next week if you weren’t using a weed eater. Hypothetically, you could use a strimmer to cut a lawn, but it would take a long time. Strimmers are much less efficient at this task than lawn mowers, and it’s more difficult to get an even cut. Electric corded strimmers. Corded strimmers use a power cable connected to mains electricity. Depending on the length of the cable, these strimmers are more suitable for smaller gardens, but you can expand their reach with an extension lead. They’re also more dangerous than cordless strimmers because you run the risk of accidentally cutting the cable.

Line feed and blade replacements. It’s useful if a blade strimmer comes with spare blades, so you don’t run out if one breaks in the middle of a job. You should be able to get a new spool of line for a line strimmer or replace the whole head. With both types it's helpful if the spare blades or line can be stored on the tool. Another defining “DIY” indicator for this tool has to be the small 13-inch cutting swath. That works to get the job done, but Pros won’t give it a second look. The Worx WG184 uses a snap-in spool that gives you an ample 20 feet of .080-inch spiral line. Worx also includes an adjustable metal spacer guard to help keep line from cutting into sensitive areas such as flower beds, vegetable gardens, tree trunks, and lawn ornaments. One light is flashing twice per cycle– At least one battery is over-discharged. Please recharge to two batteries at once before use or storage. If you need to keep going for an hour or more, either invest in an extra battery or look for a strimmer with a rapid charger. Some can recharge the battery in under an hour, while others take two or three hours (or more) to do the job. Boring, I know, but the Worx WG184 comes in at about 13 inches. This is right at the bottom of the range for commercial landscapers. While this likely wouldn’t be used in a commercial setting, it’s darn near close. One light is flashing twice per cycle– At least one battery is over-discharged. Please recharge two batteries at once before use or storage. If you plan to charge the batteries outdoors, note that this charger works only at temperatures between 32 and 110°F. It stops immediately and flashes red once the temperature exceeds or falls below that range.

Here I am going to give my honest thoughts about the WG184. For starters, I don’t like that it doesn’t have a brushless motor like most of EGO and Greenworks’ products. But that’s about the only thing I’m not in love with. Can your trimmer do this? (no). Lower consumption and drastically reduced operating costs compared to petrol engine models (great cutting results with minimal power required). Moreover, the operator won’t have to refuel (the fuel should always be fresh). Indicator lights on the charger flash green while charging is in progress, rest on green when the batteries reach 100 percent, or flash red to indicate that one or both batteries are defective. It’s the smaller touches that make this such an effective tool. The semi-auto line feed does a great job of ensuring that you never have to think about the cutting line during use, while the head rotates for easy edging. There’s also a pull-out plant protector to keep shrubs and tree trunks safe while you’re trimming close around them. It is heavy – a shoulder strap would be appreciated – but if you believe a cordless trimmer can’t match your existing electric or petrol model, the AdvancedGrassCut 36 could surprise you.My favorite feature is the ease with which you initially assemble the edger using just your hands and a Phillips head screwdriver. One screw? I’ve got this! Straps and safety harnesses. A shoulder strap or safety harness is an excellent bonus feature. It takes some of the weight of the tool, making it more comfortable to use, and also helps balance it, for better manoeuvrability and a more precise cut. Since the Worx WG184 40V trimmer/edger uses two 20V Max lithium-ion batteries, it stays compatible with all Worx 20V tools. The cordless trimmer also features a Command Feed line advance along with variable speed control. Command Feed electronically feeds 1/4 in. of line at the touch of a button. It eliminates the bump-feed mechanism entirely. You also remove the delay as you can keep cutting as you feed the tool more .080-inch line. Unlike some of the cheaper models of Worx trimmers like the GT Revolution, this one has a D-grip handle. Now before you make any jokes, this is the same handle that is on commercial trimmers. These aren’t just your straight up-and-down handles, they wrap around the trimmer and allow you to make graceful swoops across areas. Basically it is for people who know what they are doing.

If this was a big, heavy, gas-powered trimmer and edger, it would be impossible to maneuver if the motor was close to the ground like that. But since this model weighs less than nine pounds, it’s not much of an issue. No lights illuminated– At least one battery is not fully installed or the battery may be defective.

Summary

That’s a fun activity, and you may find yourself indulging in unnecessary revving the first couple times you use the WG184. I know I did! Pros and Cons Handle types. There are two types of strimmer handles. The most common is a round, circular handle on the shaft of the strimmer, called a loop handle. It makes the strimmer easy and comfortable to control, and on the best models, it can be slid up and down the shaft, so you can adjust it to your height. Alternatively, there are ‘steer’ handles - two handles rather than a loop. These offer more control and let you use a comfortable scything motion when you cut, but they take up room, and can be a little more expensive. They’re also far more common on brushcutters and petrol strimmers than electric or cordless strimmers, so you might not find steer handles on many domestic models. For my money, the main benefits of the WG184 include its ergonomic features, its relatively long-lasting batteries, its safety features, and the technology that allows you to feed more line using only a push button.

Cordless weed eaters come in all shapes and sizes. They aren’t highly complicated pieces of equipment, but they do have a few nuances. Here is how I see it: The WORX 40V lithium-ion battery ( 2 x 20V) can be recharged at any time (just like the batteries of modern mobile phones, no memory effect) so it is always ready to use. It lasts an average of 3 times more than a normal battery. The battery is equipped with a comfortable charge indicator. Most cordless strimmers use an 18V-20V battery with a 2Ah to 2.5Ah capacity, which will generally last for around 20 to 30 minutes of use. However, some will also work with other batteries in the same battery ecosystem, giving you the option of a 4Ah or 5Ah battery and a longer running time, albeit with a bit more weight.
