We think these new Mission 770 are right up there with the very best at this price. Mission takes design inspiration from the original 770 speakers launched in the 1970s, but has improved and modernised every other element: from the cabinet design to the drivers and even new dedicated stands. Wharfedale's Diamond range received the addition of a truly outstanding (and affordable) floorstander in 2021, and we were so impressed by the Diamond 12.3's musical performance we've deemed it a What Hi-Fi? Awards winner in 2021, 2022 and 2023. They may be small, but that doesn't stop the Radius 45s from using top-quality Monitor Audio speaker units. The gold C-CAM tweeter is similar to those used in full-size Monitor Audio speakers and gives a similar ideal balance of smoothness and detail. The main MMP (Metal Matrix Polymer) speaker unit offers a highly realistic mid-range and punchy upper-bass - just add a subwoofer for true bottom end rumble. At the heart of these revised speakers is a much-improved cabinet. P2P (Point-to-Point) bracing is now deployed to enhance rigidity and reduce cabinet distortion. Reducing cabinet distortion lets the drive units operate at their optimum, giving a cleaner, purer sound.

The footprint remains the same and they're ideal for smaller spaces. Partner them carefully to balance out a somewhat forward, excitable treble performance, and you'll be rewarded with a terrifically detailed, rhythmically cohesive, agile, and energetic sound. The overall presentation is more open-sounding than before, while the treble performance is so much sweeter and more refined. For their size and price level, each note lands with precision and they even hold dynamic interest at low volume. Basslines are pulled taut and while they don’t go as bone-shatteringly deep as bigger speakers (or as big as the bigger 606 S3, below), they do land with impact. Although the Aria 926 speakers stand over a metre tall, their smooth lines and luxury finish means they effortlessly blend with your decor. Ideally used in medium-sized rooms at a listening distance of around 3 metres, these speakers create a 'wall of sound'. Elac has been in the speaker business since the 1980s and has made many fine products in that time. It’s fair to say that these new Debut B5.2 speakers should be considered one of the company’s finest efforts and will match up beautifully with a turntable of similar quality. What can I say!? The system is in my small/medium sized kitchen-diner and it sounds just incredible. The Denon is solid, nothing complicated and exactly what I need, and for a small unit this thing has some power. The speakers are absolutely wonderful, lovely bass response, can handle Jimi and Janis wonderfully and are crystal clear on my lighter acoustic/ classical selections. It’s a great all round combo, couldn’t stop playing my selection of Miles Davis CDs last night once I’d started. Taller and wider than contemporary standmount speakers, the Lintons have a unique presence. That ‘big box’ style is successfully offset by the real wood finishes and dark grille (leave this on for the recommended sound balance), making them less intrusive in your room than you might expect. That bigger, boxier design also means deep, effortless bass.
