About this deal

If you have hard floors, look for an upright vacuum with different floor modes, which see the brush roller switched off, so it doesn’t damage the flooring, or for models that come with an additional cleaning head featuring a softer brush roll designed for this purpose. Miele's tech made the Trifle HX2 Pro a dream to use when transitioning from carpets to hard floors, with the level of suction remaining consistent. Manually switching between the speed settings was just as easy. We preferred the Eco and Max settings, since we have long-pile wool carpet in our home; the Min setting just didn't cut it for us. However, when switching settings, it took a second or so for the vacuum cleaner to power up or change gears – enough time to be noticeable – so this vacuum isn't as responsive as some other vacuum cleaners we've tested. According to Miele, the TriflexHX2 Prois 60% more powerful than its predecessor, the Triflex HX1 – a model that had already impressed for its power in our review. This improvement comes by way of the new Digital Efficiency Motor, which works in combination with Miele’s Vortex technology (mono-cyclone design) and Multi-Floor XXL Electrobrush to deliver exceptional cleaning power. The rotating beater (or brush bar) links with intelligent detection of floor type to reduce the rotational speed on hard floors. This, Miele says, saves energy and prolongs battery life; but we found that it also goes some way towards protecting soft wooden flooring. The feature also automatically determines the speed setting required, depending on the type of flooring.

We were disappointed there were no LEDs on the floor cleaning head - a feature offered by some vacuums on this list - making cleaning easier when cleaning in dark spaces under furniture. It's also bulky, meaning it may be a problem to store. That said, this is the best on the market right now when it comes to upright vacuums.

A cordless vacuum cleaner that can switch between handheld, stick and upright modes but it’s even more expensive than a Dyson

In Australia the Miele Triflex HX2 range also includes the Triflex HX2 Performance, Triflex HX2 Racer and Triflex HX2 Cat & Dog Plus. They also come with a digital display, a flexi tube (Jet 75 Pet) and an extra soft roller floorhead (Jet 70 Complete). Switching between the three modes is a bit of a faff, as both the handle and wand have to move positions. It involves a fair amount of unplugging and replugging to do it. This vacuum cleaner can be assembled in three different ways, adjusting where the main vacuum cleaner sits for each one, giving more comfort whether you’re using it handheld, as a regular cleaner or to get more reach. Design and features The HEPA¹ lifetime filter captures and filters 99.999%² of all microscopic particles and allergens, removing them from the air. This maintenance free filter is perfect for people who suffer from asthma and allergies.

Founded in 1899, Miele is one of the world's leading manufacturers of premium domestic appliances including cookers and ovens, refrigeration products, coffee makers, dishwashers and laundry and floor-care products. The brand launched its first ever cordless vacuum cleaner in February 2020, which set the benchmark for the Triflex HX2 range that has followed. Aside from the increase in power, there's a 0.4kg weight difference - the Triflex HX2 being the lighter of the two - and variations in the attachments that come with the two Miele vacuum cleaner ranges. The vacuum cleaner itself measures 1,297 x 280 x 260mm (H x W x D) and weighs 3.6kg when all the pieces are connected together. The collection bin has a capacity of 500ml, which is a little on the small side. And it looks like it will fill rapidly, too, with carpet fluff collecting and jamming at one side during our tests. We found that the Hoover HL5 is loud, however, after we measured between 78dB - 82dB, from using the wand in portable mode to using the motorized floor head on the floor, using our decibel reader on our phones. It is also mighty heavy and the bin had a tendency to lift off when we tried to lug the upright vacuum up the stairs.

Fine-tuned spec over its predecessor

The floor cleaner here is similar to those seen on Dyson cleaners, in that it automatically detects the floor type and reduces rotational speed on hard floors to save energy and prolong battery life. However, in the Trfle HX2 Pro, this feature is only available on the Eco and Max power settings with the Multi-Floor XXL Electrobrush is fitted. In the box, you'll also find a crevice nozzle, dusting brush, upholstery nozzle.

Traditionally, vacuum cleaners are wired and come in two styles; upright vacuums and cylinders, also referred to as canister vacuums, but which is better? We recommend vacuuming most floors once a week while increasing this to twice a week in high-traffic areas such as hallways and doorways. Especially if you have carpet, as the longer dust is left, the more it becomes embedded in the fibers making it hard to thoroughly clean. Moving on to Cheerios, I didn’t have particularly high hopes. The front of the floor head has a lip that almost touches the floor, and while there’s a slight angle to it, which raises the front slightly, it didn’t look like it was going to deal with chunky Cheerios particles. Is once a week really enough to keep your floors as clean as possible, or should you be vacuuming every couple of days? For those without one of the best robot vacuums on hand to help out, it's a hard question to answer. In terms of tools and accessories, the Samsung Bespoke Jet comes with a dizzying array. The main floorhead supplied is an electro brush, but a wet floor brush is also included. Other accessories are an upholstery nozzle, crevice tool, furniture brush, mini turbo brush, two multi-use wet pads, two single-use wet pads, two dust bags, an angle tool and an additional battery. In the box you will also find an all-in-one clean station and an accessory cradle with battery charger, which is able to store all the tools that come with the vacuum. On carpet I was pleasantly surprised, though. After initially looking like it was going to snowplough the Cheerios ahead of it, I set the suction to Max and it proved powerful enough to drag the Cheerios underneath. Once it had climbed the vanguard, the rest didn’t have much of a chance, and it collected 25g of a 26g spill in one go.
