History of Tver

In 1764-1766, the main attraction of Tver was constructed - the Travel Palace of Empress Catherine in the style of classicism with baroque elements, designed by M.F. Kazakov. The palace was intended for the rest of the members of the imperial family on the way from St. Petersburg to Moscow. In 1787, the population of Tver was about 15,100 people. Tver City Duma as a representative body of the city existed from 1785 to 1918, was reconstituted after the dissolution of councils and adoption of the new Constitution of Russia in 1993. On 20 March 1994, elections were held in the House of Representatives, which on 26 May was renamed Tver City Duma. On 7 June deputies were able to hold the first meeting, and on 14 June Valery Matitsyn was elected a speaker (later this post was held by Valery Pavlov, Victor Pochtaryov, Dmitry Bazhenov, Igor Serdyuk, Andrei Borisenko, Lyudmila Polosina, Vladimir Babichev). In 1996, deputies adopted the founding document of the city – the Charter of the city of Tver, putting in it the principle of rotation in the Duma elections. Second election based on it was held on 27 October 1996 . In the future years elections held every two years in the "even" and "odd" electoral districts. In 2007, 12 former deputies (including the former chairman of the Duma Victor Pochtaryov) were convicted of taking bribes for decisions in favor of Rosvodokanal and other utilities. In October 2008, the elections of some deputies have already passed on party lists, and in March 2009 the entire City Duma has been transferred to this system, while discontinued the practice of rotation of deputies. In the elections of 2009, the best result (49% of the vote) was shown by local communists. At the beginning of the 17th century, about 10,000 people lived in Tver. In 1612, during the Time of Troubles, it was completely devastated by the Polish-Lithuanian troops. In 1629, the town had 11 abandoned churches and monasteries, 1,450 empty houses. In 1685, its population was about 4,600 residents. Chronicles and stone construction were resumed in Tver for the first time in Rus after a 50-year hiatus. Tver developed its own original art school: architecture, icon painting, jewelry, decorative and applied arts. Its own coin was also minted here. On September 30, 2021, TV Tokyo announced that it was preparing to start simultaneously streaming its programs on TVer in December. [23] However, on November 25, TV Tokyo announced that the start of simultaneous streaming would be delayed until after the new year due to delays in the development of the viewing app system for TVer. [24] On February 17 of the following year, TV Tokyo stated its intention to start the service in April, and that TV Asahi, TBS Television, and Fuji Television were also adjusting their schedules to start around the same time.
