Georges Joseph Christian Simenon (1903 – 1989) was a Belgian writer. A prolific author who published nearly 500 novels and numerous short works, Simenon is best known as the creator of the fictional detective Jules Maigret. The model was based on work led by Professor Barry Carpenter which found that engagement was the single best predictor of successful learning in children with special needs and/or disabilities. Through regular observational assessment, the engagement model measures progress against five interrelated areas of engagement. The engagement model is use to assess students with SEND needs, such as complex or profound learning disabilities or cognitive impairments. How to use the Engagement Model in Schools It values all sources of knowledge and information provided by those supporting the pupil, including teachers, school staff, other professionals and parents or carers. It's also very flowery, but I can't fault her for that. I'd think she was going for atmospheric, and she pulled it off fairly well in the end. As a protagonist, Mr. Hire splits our sympathy. We feel for him because we sense how his social skills were compromised long ago. How to use the Engagement Model in Schools
The engagement model is an assessment tool which has been developed to help schools support children who are not working at the level of the national curriculum. Since becoming a statutory requirement in September 2021, it has replaced what in the previous system were P-levels – one to four. Who Should Be Assessed Using the Engagement Model? This pupil-centred approach allows teachers to make valuable and insightful assessments of students to identify areas they need further support in. That being said, the engagement model does put a large focus on a child's abilities rather than disabilities. The engagement model should identify and celebrate all students' progress, no matter how big or small. The engagement model is a teacher assessment tool to help schools support pupils who are at key stage 1 (KS1) and key stage 2 (KS2), working below the level of the national curriculum and not engaged in subject-specific study.

Early Steps 2021 and Engagement Steps overlap with the Primary Steps and Progression Steps, supporting transition between frameworks.
