About this deal

Having some new gear is a treat to myself and this is probably the last DSO I will buy so I want to have the best of the gear that is appropriate for me. I also want to know how to work it. The oscilloscopes of the Siglent SDS1000X-E series have enhanced mathematical functions. Measurements and math functions are processed over the complete memory range, not only in the display memory. In addition the FFT function works with a lot more data points (1 MPts instead of 16 KPts) which makes it more accurate. Model The SDS1104X-E has unmatched value, only usurped for some by the new 1104X-U. Omissions from this new model include the 1M FFT and the possibility of 16 digital channels as well as some other minor changes like a 2ns/div max timebase vs the SDS1104X-E's 1ns/div. These feature are worth having in the 1104X-E, at least for me, especially when the sale price of an SDS1104X-E is so close to the RRP of the SDS1104X-U.

By showing both the magnitude and phase information on the same graph, you can evaluate some of the tested device’s basic qualities. A function generator and oscilloscope can be used to manually collect and compare the phase and amplitude data for a given device, but this can be tedious and time-consuming. This unit features a TFT-LCD display, measuring 7-inch. The resolution is 800×480, which is pretty large when compared to other scopes within the same price range. Not only is the screen large, but it properly shows the functions with different colors for you to read the data easily. As for an overall conclusion, it could only be for the content published so far and this would be very positive, except maybe for the X-Y mode and the displayed resolution of the time measurements. But X-Y mode will most definitely see a major re-design and I might be able to convince Siglent to offer one digit more resolution on some of the automatic measurements

Operations and Windowing Techniques:It also has some really good mathematical operations for an entry level ‘scope such as: signal addition, subtraction, multiplication and division and of course a smooth FFT function, credit to its hardware coprocessor. Tautech - Thanks so much for your help! I think you are right. A lot of things to get used to and compare. One option is the Rigol 1054Z. Another good option is the SDS series Siglent oscilloscopes – specifically the Siglent SDS1202X-E and SDS1204X-E. We’ve previously reviewed the Rigol DS1054Z so today we’re going to focus on the Siglent oscilloscopes. In this application note, we are going to characterize the frequency response of a low pass filter using the free automated Bode Plot function on a SIGLENT SDS1204X-E Digital Oscilloscope and a SIGLENT SDG6052X Arbitrary Waveform Generator. This automated control provides a clean and easy route to characterizing devices. Anyone interested in these scopes will find the demonstration, verification and discussion of all features together with any noticeable deficiencies, which of course I’ve already reported to Siglent.

The Siglent SDS1104X-E offers better FFT, while also offering double the sampling rate in multi-channel operation. Another useful feature provided by this unit and not by Rigol is the option to integrate MSO capability. A Bode plot is a method of graphically displaying the frequency response of a system or device-under-test (DUT). Commonly, the magnitude and phase response of the device are plotted with respect to frequency using a shared horizontal frequency axis as shown in the example below:

And it has a true 1 GSa/s rate thanks to it’s A/D converters. As previously mentioned, the SDS1202X-E sampling rate gets cut in half when an additional channel is turned on. But since the 1204X-E has two separate converters, it’s able to sample both channels at the 1 GS/S rate on every other channel – ie channels 1 & 3, or 2 & 4. Convenience seems to be important. I don't think the better front end of the Siggy will make much difference in base band audio. But since my only experience is with the Siggy I'm asking others opinions and experiences with the 4 channel DSO. Not so much for price but ease of use to get what I need. Your BW is much greater than mine in that domain. types of one-button shortcuts, supports Auto Setup, Default, Cursors, Measure, Roll, History, Display/Persist, Clear Sweep, Zoom and Print Or should I reverse the question: Do you see any difference in quality of viewing and measuring signals with your Micsg compared to your DS1054Z?
