About this deal

In the twenty issues that preceded Season of Mists, Gaiman and his artistic collaborators introduced most of the members of the Endless. We had met Dream, of course, and Death. And Desire and Despair. And Destiny had popped up, but makes his presence felt more fully in the opening chapter of this arc. And, here, we are also introduced to Delirium, the unstable pixie of a sister, and a missing brother (Destruction, though his name is never spoken in this arc) who has cut off all ties with his family, for reasons to be explored in future Sandman stories.

Neil Gaiman's magical narrative prowess continues to shine brilliantly in "The Sandman: Act 2," the much-anticipated sequel to the critically acclaimed first act. This audible book is a mesmerizing journey that seamlessly weaves together elements of fantasy, mythology, and dark enchantment, creating an auditory experience that is nothing short of captivating. Gaiman's storytelling, with his characteristic blend of elegance and darkness, brings to life a world where dreams, reality, and the ethereal collide. The author's mastery of prose translates effortlessly into an auditory feast, as the richly textured world of the Endless unfurls in front of your mind's eye. From the moment you press play, you're transported into a realm that transcends the boundaries of imagination. The narration in "The Sandman: Act 2" is nothing short of impeccable. An ensemble cast of talented actors skilfully breathes life into a multitude of characters, each with their own unique voice and personality. James McAvoy's portrayal of Dream remains a standout, delivering a performance that captures the character's complex emotions and enigmatic demeanour with astounding precision. The supporting cast is equally exceptional, elevating the listening experience to an entirely new level. But beyond the superb narration, it's Gaiman's masterful storytelling that truly shines. With Act 2, he takes us deeper into the intricate tapestry of the Sandman universe, unravelling layers of mystery and emotion. Themes of mortality, destiny, and the power of dreams are interwoven flawlessly, creating a narrative that not only entertains but also prompts profound introspection. If we're able to do Game of You, we've got a lot of characters who aren't even human, who are talking animals, who I'm looking forward to meeting," Heinberg added. "Lenny Henry is so good as Martin Tenbones, and I can't wait for the audience to meet Wanda, Foxglove, and Hazel." Based on the biblical characters, Cain and Abel are very much comic relief characters in Sandman. Look no further than the numerous times Cain murders Abel, in increasingly gruesome ways. In season one, they made two appearances. Firstly, we saw the death of Gregory and the hatching of Goldie the gargoyle in episode 2. And then later on, they reappeared while Lucienne was performing a census of the Dream Realm. The Sandman is also full of pretty dense lore, or "rich fare" as one commenter put it, especially for anyone experiencing it for the first time. "I’m watching it quite slowly. 3 eps then a week off. Couple more, then a break... Loving it though," they told Gaiman. The Sandman creator responded with a succinct " You are not alone in watching it slowly." The writer's comments arrived at the same time as rumors that Netflix wanted to abandon its binge model and switch to weekly releases. Oh, honestly, I shivered throughout the re-read. This is SUCH an important volume for the rest of the tale. And I really can't top my original review, either. But this book is also about the power and importance of dreams and stories. Figuratively and literally.

The casting news for the upcoming episodes indicates that the show will remix the structure of the comics. The season will cover Volume 4, Season of Mists and Volume 7, Brief Lives. Interestingly, the casting descriptions suggest that Volume 5, A Game of You, has been pushed aside, at least for now. We’re expecting The Song of Orpheus to be adapted too, and while Destruction makes a brief appearance in that, his main story arc for the season will be covered in Brief Lives. Redanian Intelligence also reported The Punisher star Amber Rose Revah joined the production prior to the start of the strikes, although her role is currently unclear. Responding to a question on Tumblr about why the last episode of the show has so little to do with the rest of the series, Neil Gaiman responded, “Think of Episode 11 as the bridge into Season 2.” We’ve got as many [seasons] as they’ll let us have," Heinberg told NMEat the show's premiere in London. "If enough viewers show up, we can go for quite a long while. We want to do all of it, we want a spin-off miniseries. We’d love to make it for as long as they’ll have us.” When Will The Sandman Return for Season Two?

One possible break from the established story, though, is a person who comes along for the adventure. In the comic, a woman named Thessaly eventually joins Barbie’s party and is revealed as a witch (in the truest sense), who also attracts the attention of Morpheus. In the television series, we could easily see Johanna Constantine ( Jenna Coleman) take Thessaly’s place in the tale. But then, we can also see Joanna taking over more than just Thessaly’s role in that particular story. But we could just be reading a lot in those pauses and glances between her and Morpheus in episode 3. The latter is rumored to be played by Pose's Indya Moore, who is transgender and non-binary and was spotted filming with Sturridge in photos from the Daily Mail.
