About this deal

Since this series is based in France (and Peter May lives in France), he left no stone unturned while getting everything right. The series is named after the protagonist of this series, Enzo Macleod, a half-Scottish, half-Italian, professor of Biology at a French University. Detective Li Yan senses a conspiracy surrounding the fatalities, and finds a female athlete willing to talk. But she will only trust one person: Li's fiancée, Margaret Campbell. This thriller series is popular for the tempestuous relationship between Chinese detective Li Yan, and acerbic American pathologist Dr. Margaret Campbell from Chicago. The China Thrillers landed Peter the only honorary membership of the Chinese Crime Writer’s Association awarded to a westerner for its vibrant portrayal of contemporary Chinese life. When the mutilated and dismembered bodies of eighteen women are discovered in a mass grave in Shanghai, Li is sent to establish if the corpses are related to an unsolved murder in Beijing, and he finds the most horrifying catalog of killings ever uncovered in the Middle Kingdom.

In 2006, Firemaker was runner up for the Best Crime Novel category in the Elle Magazine, Grand Prix de Litterature. Snakehead was the winner at the Salon Polar and Co, Cognac in the 2007 Prix Intramuros (France), and shortlisted at the Salon Polar and Co, Cognac in the 2007 Prix International as well. Chinese Whispers was shortlisted at the Salon Polar and Co, Cognac in the 2008 Prix International. The China Thrillers series follows detective Li Yan and American pathologist on exchange Dr. Margaret Campbell. It serves to introduce Yan and Campbell and the beginning of their relationship, which continues through an additional 5 novels. It feels more polished than some of May’s other novel series, and is almost as good as some of his standalone or trilogy efforts. Enzo does not know that as he leads the investigation, he is getting closer to the killer, putting his own life in danger. There is a lot of action, thrill, and humor in this book and the entire series. The Lewis Trilogy Once more, Margaret is unsure of her mercurial relationship with Li, and if it will threaten their professional collaboration. Having just suffered the heartbreak of burying her father, she arrives in Shanghai to find any partnership with Li threatened by another woman named Mei-Ling. Born in the Year of the Tiger, Mei-Ling seems to have her claws firmly fixed in Li. How can Margaret, a mere “foreign devil,” compete with Mei-Ling, the deputy head of Shanghai’s serious crime squad? There's no way Li can misinterpret the Ripper's motives: he wants to tear Li and Campbell's lives apart, and write the darkest chapter in Beijing's history. The first of Peter May's China critically acclaimed thrillers featuring Beijing detective Li Yan and American pathologist Margaret Campbell. The Enzo Files is set in France and is centred on the work of half-Italian, half-Scottish Enzo Macleod. This former forensic scientist, now working as a biology professor at a French university becomes involved in applying the latest scientific methods to solve cold cases. [14] The Killing Room is the third in Peter May's China Thrillers series. Published in the late 90's, early 2000's these books reflect an era that saw the rapid acceleration of economic development as capitalism begins to erode traditional government managed organizations. Book #3 of the China Thrillers by Peter May and featuring Dr. Margaret Campbell and Deputy Section Chief Li Yan. I have to give a shout-out to Gary for recommending the first book to me and now I am hooked into reading about these characters.

I will be honest and say The Killing Room is my least favourite in the series thus far. It was enjoyable, yes, but it didn’t quite wow me in the way the two prior books did. Things were a bit on the predictable side – with both the way the relationship developed between the characters and the way the crime played out – and I found myself working things out well before they came to be. Despite this, I still had a lot of fun. There was plenty to enjoy throughout, and the book is extremely difficult to put down. The author keeps the level of interest high and the excitment bubbling through discovery and development. Peter May treets the goryiness of the story much to my satisfaction and whereas I will reduce my score for gratuitious violence, here I felt no need. Deanstons Scottish Crime Book of the Year [31] Entry Island won the Deanstons Scottish Crime Book of the Year Award at the Bloody Scotland Crime Writing Festival in Stirling September 2014. Elle Magazine, Grand Prix de Littérature (2006) The Firemaker runner up in category Best Crime Novel [8]Who are the recovered bodies? And why were they killed? What is the common factor between them or is this a random serial killer?

People who have a taste for crime thrillers and murder mysteries will find the name Peter May familiar.

French Literary Prizes – Prix Ancres Noires des Lecteurs". Lesancresnoires.com . Retrieved 20 June 2010. Peter May has created three different series and, along with other standalone novels, has written over 25 novels. A grotesquely burned corpse found in a city park is a troubling mystery for Beijing detective Li Yan. Yan, devoted to his career as a means of restoring the respect his family lost during the Cultural Revolution, needs outside help if he is to break the case. I had an extraordinary sense of having arrived somewhere special, a society preserved as in aspic, and I knew immediately that I wanted to write about it.

In this book Li Yan is working on a case where a woman’s body has been found and it appears the victim had undergone an autopsy while alive, organs removed and her body cut into pieces. Yan is sent to Shanghai to oversee the investigation instigated by a mass grave being found there with the similar remains of 18 women. There is plenty of relationship issues with Yan receiving the attentions of his female counterpart in Shanghai and also the on -going love interest from former lover Margaret Campbell. Prix Ancres Noires [42] (2012) L'Homme de Lewis (The Lewis Man) winner of the Prix des Lecteurs at the Les Ancres Noires book festival, Le Havre In the second novel in the China series, Li Yan and Margaret Campbell are reluctantly reunited, on the trail of a killer reenacting a series of gruesome rituals Entry Island, Peter May's first book after the Lewis Trilogy, won the Deanstons Scottish Crime Book of the Year 2014, [31] the UK national prize, the Specsavers ITV Crime Thriller Book Club Best Read of the Year 2014 [32] and the French Trophée 813 for the Best Foreign Crime Novel of the year 2015.
