About this deal

Overall: A- ( A really well-executed daily trainer to crush the bulk of your mileage. Good stability throughout with surprising responsiveness. Can be a tad slappy through the midfoot.)

The most important part of the shoe is the Wave plate, which forms the basis of our Mizuno Wave Rider running shoe. A reinforced plate in the shoe, that greatly improves the stability. With the Wave Rider you can continuously set new goals on shoes that challenge you to Reach Beyond what you thought was capable. My first few runs were like the song Lavender Haze in that it took me a while to get used to the style. The upper is extremely loose out of the box and needs some adjusting to get the right fit, but I got there eventually. I also enjoyed the durable feeling of the recycled material, which remains stretchy and forgiving. It should be noted that the Wave Rider is undoubtedly narrower than, say, a Brooks Ghost, though I didn’t find any issues with it.

Overall: B- (While it didn't work for me, it is a well done high drop daily trainer and may work very well for heel strikers with neutral mechanics) On the outside, a flexible and breathable mesh ensures a good fit to the instep. The absence of seams on the upper and the padded fabric around the ankle minimise chafing and increase the comfort of the shoes. A sole of 10 My first impression when I opened the box was that I thought they were the Mizuno Wave Inspire 18s. They look very similar to one another and they felt alike. Another thing I noticed was how tight the upper was around my midfoot and toe box. I usually always wear a size 8 but these were very snug and as I mentioned earlier, wished I would have gotten them a half size bigger. DPT/Footwear Science: B/B- ( Points for maintaining guidance, but the increase in weight and increase in clunkiness in the heel needs to be fixed. This could be modulated by a heel bevel and reducing the density of the foam just enough to help it break in a little faster).

Skratch Recovery, Coffee Flavor:Mental and physical boost post run. Coffee flavor is excellent and goes great straight into a fresh brewed cup

David: I really enjoyed my experience with the Mizuno Wave Rider 26. The things I'd probably focus on would be refining the midfoot experience a little bit. The shoe still feels a tad slappy coming off of the higher heel into the higher part of the plate. I think decreasing that arc a tiny bit might do it for me. I also felt a tiny bit of a rolling motion in the forefoot laterally and think a little sole flare on the lateral side could help. Otherwise, this is a top-shelf daily trainer for me.

Anatomy of a Shoe

Pellentesque orci lectus, consectetur vel posuere posuere, rutrum eu ipsum. Aliquam eget odio sed ligula iaculis consequat at eget orci. Mauris molestie sit amet metus mattis varius. Donec sit amet ligula eget nisi sodales egestas. Aliquam interdum dolor aliquet dolor sollicitudin fermentum. Donec congue lorem a molestie bibendum. Etiam nisi ante, consectetur eget placerat a, tempus a neque. Donec ut elit urna. Etiam venenatis eleifend urna eget scelerisque. Aliquam in nunc quis dui sollicitudin ornare ac vitae lectus. The ride is smooth, stable and spongey, with enough cushioning to keep you comfortable on easy runs and long runs. This comes from the Mizuno energy foam in the midsole, which achieves a good middle-ground between feeling firm/rigid and squishy/plush – unlike the Rider 25 and 26 which fell to each end of the spectrum. David: The Mizuno Wave Rider is a daily training shoe for someone that enjoys the traditional feel of a high drop trainer. Normally I'm thinking the older Wave Rider, Pegasus, Cumulus, Ghost type training shoes in that category. The shoe has a little bit of rigidity up front and has a surprising amount of responsiveness when pushed. The foam provides good cushion throughout, though still maintains a ride more on the firmer end of things. This is a shoe that gives you a predictable ride mile after mile. I would recommend sizing up a half-size. They weigh 8.3oz. Not too heavy but not extremely lightweight either. It falls into the typical daily trainer price range. Traditional is the word I keep seeing when describing the Wave Rider 26. Mizuno plays it safe with this updated version.

Even though the Wave Rider 26 doesn't necessarily feel heavy on the run, keep in mind that it is a little heftier than the average daily trainer (9.7 oz/274g). The Wave Rider 26 is best for middle miles DPT/Footwear Science: B (nice use of lighter weight foam in a traditional daily trainer. Wave plate feels like it stabilizes rearfoot much more than forefoot) RUBY: The Wave Rider 26 doesn’t fall too far from the tree. Mizuno has retained its classic thermoplastic Wave Plate squashed between layers of Enerzy foam — right where it should be. The one-two punch makes for a surprisingly responsive ride, even at slower paces. Amphipod Hydraform Handheld Water Bottle: Perfect for long runs when you need hydration in the summer David: The Mizuno Wave Rider is a neutral daily training shoe that provides a very "traditional" ride. The shoe does maintain a high drop from heel to toe like many older training shoes. With that said the transition is still well maintained when loaded and the decrease in flex grooves actually feels like it smoothens the forefoot out and makes it a little more poppy up front as well.Running on misty mornings, wet fallen leaves, and puddles was not a problem for this Mizuno shoe at all! Tip: have you noticed that you overpronate while running or have you been advised to run in corrective running shoes? The Wave Inspire is probably the shoe for you. A comparable shoe, with a correcting Wave plate to limit overpronation. We also appreciated the WR26’s new outsole and its more continuous and interconnected rubber coverage. We believe that this resulted in better traction and added wear resistance. With the recognizable Wave form alongside the sole you can instantly tell our Mizuno running shoes apart from other brands. Suited for low to moderate pressure, both in weight as well as your running style. For short and long distances, up to the marathons our athletes run.
