About this deal

A: Le Havre is more complex than Agricola. Le Havre was designed to improve the Agricola experience for players who find it too easy. Also, in Le Havre less is left to the chance.

Use our convenient matchmaking service to challenge players of your skill level globally or play locally with a friend. You can also defeat one of the different computer opponents with varying difficulty. The and symbols on some Round cards indicate that a building or special building card must be added to the town's buildings.

Conclusion

The additional value of buildings with a plus symbol (e.g. the Bank), which depend on the other buildings that she owns. (see text and illustration on the cards) Special building card: If a Special building card is required, the top card from the face-down Special buildings pile is turned face up. New Ship card The town of Le Havre has the second biggest harbor of France (the biggest one is in Marseille). Apart from the size, Le Havre has a very interesting name, too. The name was adopted from Dutch and means nothing else than The Harbor. However, the French like their language best (at least that's what the cliché says) and nowadays the call the town Le Port (which, again, means The Harbor). The game was released at Spiel 2008 in both German and Australian English, with both editions published by Lookout Games. It did not do as well as its predecessor Agricola in the Fairplay polls, with a rating of 2.51 (1 is best), but has a high rating of 7.9/10 at BoardGameGeek (a different rating system), ranking among the top 100 games [1] [2] and is generally considered to be highly regarded by critics. [3]

Note: In the Final stage only, Person discs may be moved to buildings which are already occupied by one or more other Person discs. Each player, therefore, has the chance to visit one building of his choice during the Final action. The only building that may not be entered is the one that the Person disc is already on. The second number - below the Round number and in a cooking pot - shows the amount of food that each player must consume at the end of the round. The required building materials are shown at the top of the building card (and are repeated at the bottom of the card as well). The Round Overview card gives an overview of all the Round cards. The first row on the card shows the Round number in a brown circle. Each turn consists of a Supply action, a Main action (these are Mandatory actions) and optional Additional actions.

When I first understood the rules and how to play this game it took a while before I found out what I should and should not focus on – and I still don’t know for sure. Le Havre provides a very satisfying gaming experience for someone who likes economic strategies. The variety of possible tactics used by players and combinations of the cards is so rich the game does not become dull even after you have played it several times. There are no clear instructions on how to win the game: even for an experienced player every turn of Le Havre holds so many possibilities the best one is never obvious. Entering a Building: Most of the building cards allow visitors to take an action, (e.g. to build additional buildings) or to convert standard goods to upgraded goods. To use a building's action, a player must enter the building; that is, move her Person disc to an unoccupied building. However, many players who played Le Havre after Agricola preferred Le Havre. It lasts longer and gives players more time to accomplish their goals. In comparison to Agricola, Le Havre is a more varied game, although it has fewer cards and simpler game mechanics. FAQAt first it’s no big deal when you have to shell out two food tokens here, a couple of Francs there. But suddenly it’s the end of the round and you’ve got a workforce to feed and – hey, where’s all your fish and bread gone? Ah, that’s right, you just gave it all to Alex to use his Colliery. Now you’re going to have to take out a loan…

The game is played for a set number of rounds. The winner is the player with the greatest net wealth at the end. I bought this game to see if I wanted to buy the hard copy of it. I want to find a light game that my girl friend and I can play together so we can get a break from Carcassonne. Note: In this game, Food can always be replaced 1:1 with Francs. Francs can, however, never be replaced with food. Le Havre was published in 2008 by Lookout Games, a German board game publisher. Among other games, the company published the board game Agricola, which could be called the predecessor of Le Havre. In 2013, the American company Z-Man Games published its edition of Le Havre, which included Le Grand Hameau expansion. Collect resources to build and use new buildings, while paying your workers and saving up for ships. Buildings are a good investment, but ships provide necessary income. Deciding where to put your resources early on may determine your fate later in the game, so choose wisely! The overall gameplay of Le Havre is simple. A players turn consits of two parts: first you resupply the resource fields and afterwards carry out one action. Available actions are e. g. taking all resources of the same kind from one field or using the abillity of a already build building. Using buildings the player can refine or convert goods, sell goods or build ships or buildings. They are not only an investment, but can actually generate income as using buildings from another player costs a fee. Ships on the other hand a mainly used to get food for your workers. Each round consits of seven player actions and is finished by a harvest phase in which players gain agricultural products and need to feed their workers. After a certain amount of rounds (depending on player count and game mode) every player is allowed to do one last action before the game ends. Buildings and ships have a financial value which is added to the players wealth. In the end, the player with the most money wins. Points are earned by making money, building buildings and ships (which each have their own values), and selling goods. At the end of each round, players must be able to give food to their workers. The amount of food depends on the round number and the number of players, starting out low and gradually increasing as the game progresses. Players not planning ahead will soon find themselves with a shortage of food which will require taking loans from the Bank. Building ships can help with this food problem, as each ship will give the player a discount on their food each round (they count as trade routes which give the player more sources of food). The player then has a choice: Either take all of the goods from any one of the seven jetties, or perform a worker placement move, by relocating their solitary worker to a vacant, yet constructed, building and benefiting from the associated action. You wont be able to do both on every turn you have, so the way to success is to plan what offers you should claim or what buildings to use so that you will be able to build and buy buildings and ships as often as possible.
