About this deal

Those rating the hot tub 1 and 2 stars tended to have found the instructions unclear for chemical usage or have had issues with the WiFi features. A few users also commented on the lid being a bit loose, and that the tub's capacity is compact for 2-4 people (however, having tested a range of hot tubs, a smaller capacity than marketed is common across the board). Much like visiting a real spa, these lazy spas or home hot tubs as they're known can provide a wealth of health benefits including muscle relaxation, pain relief, improved sleep and lowered blood pressure. We chose the corner of the patio and rotated the hot tub so the drainage outlet sat slightly overhanging the patio steps. We did this to be able to drain it more easily, as we had a difficult time emptying the previous hot tub we tested as the low drainage outlet can make it difficult to get a container to fit under it, and we wanted to be able to reuse the water to water the garden plants. Alternatively, you may be able to position the hot tub to discharge directly into a surface water drain or you may be happy to drain the hot tub directly onto a lawn. While there is a range of lazy spas available to buy, one of the biggest and best in the UK is the Lay-Z-Spa. As the country's most 5 stars reviewed hot tub brand, they provide premium inflatable spas with advanced technology, unique features and award‑winning design which helps these lazy spas stand out above the rest.

Filling time also doubled with the Wave, because of course the water capacity is twice the size, and that larger volume of water took a lot longer to heat meaning that running costs were higher. If I had one negative comment it would be the noise levels when the bubbles are at full power. You can choose between 100 per cent power or 50 per cent power and I’d always choose the latter as it emits a high pitch whistle at full bore, which is not relaxing in any way, shape or form. However, I am noise sensitive (or intolerant); the children didn’t even notice it. The dogs got quite disturbed though! Given the price and size (two adults fit comfortably, any more would be far too intimate for me), I was seriously impressed by the Lay-Z-Spa Barbados and would recommend it to anyone looking for an affordable, portable hot tub with low running costs. Being on the small side isn’t a bad thing – it’s cheaper to heat, fill and keep clean, and it’ll easily fit in a small garden without gobbling up play space. Both hot tubs have inflatable lids, but they both have the issue in that they gather rainwater, although the Wave lid fits more snuggly and is sturdier. In terms of maintenance, the spa comes with a repair kit and includes handy instructions on how to repair any punctures. There's also an extensive troubleshooting guide and instructions on draining the spa, cleaning it, and deflation. If you're concerned about energy usage and running costs then the Barbados' extra thermal efficiency is a great feature, and I think worth paying that little bit more for.

Easy to inflate, this blow-up hot tub has much thinner walls than most other inflatables, which makes for more space inside the hot tub – and a whopping 1123L water capacity – that allows up to seven adults to enjoy a spa experience at one time (although we think five people ensures everyone has comfortable leg room). The spacious design is matched by a generous 180 massaging air jets. The area required of course depends on the size of the hot tub you choose; consider the circumference for the hot tub itself, plus additional access room. If you're looking for an affordable hot tub, then the Lay-Z-Spa Cancun is generally one of the cheapest hot tubs on the market, and has some pretty impressive features to boot. This energy‑efficient inflatable hot tub has Wi-Fi connectivity that allows you to control your hot tub from the Lay-Z-Spa app so it's always ready when you are.

The only real downside is its capacity, which is fine – if still a little cosy – for two adults, but definitely starts to feel crowded with any more users. I don’t think it will suit us as much as our boys grow older and bigger, as I certainly don’t think it would be a comfortable fit for me and three 6-foot boys! You can take it with you if you move home, without the need to hire a crane, and you can easily store it away for winter. It is a little on the small side; the recommended use is two adults or a family of four. We only tried all four of us together on one occasion and it wasn’t relaxing but that’s possibly because children are not relaxing, period! Part of the maintenance process includes cleaning the filter, managing the chemical levels and changing the water. So, soothe yourself in the bubbles and relax in care-free bliss of these lazy spas! Which lazy spa brand is best? Tried, tested, and loved by the Gardeningetc team, the Zurich is stylish option that offers 40% more energy efficiency than similar models.

This is a 'proper' hard-shell hot tub – no inflating required – and its high-quality frame is designed to last for years and years, with no worries about punctures or deflation. However, that does mean it's going to take up a lot more space to store, or it will need a permanent spot in the garden Getting into the Lay-Z Spa Barbados is nothing short of bliss. We found 35-36ºC really cosy but not too warm for the children. It is much more comfortable than I was expecting, my only hot tub benchmark being the polycarbonate built-in ones with ergonomically shaped seats common in spa hotels. The Lay-Z-Spa Barbados hot tub is very easy to use. You take the lid off by unclipping the clasps. These have a safety feature whereby you have to push in a tab before squeezing the outside clasps. This makes it difficult for children to remove. You can then easily climb in and make yourself comfortable on the padded base. The 120 massaging airjets can be turned on at a push of a button and the temperature can be easily adjusted on the digital display using the arrows. I’m not going to lie, it’s not the prettiest hot tub I have ever set eyes on, but it’s not the ugliest either. The greige colourway is far nicer than some of the lurid blue/green portable tubs out there and the heater unit is sleekly designed. I did make sure it was positioned in the corner where it would be fairly hidden from view when looking out from the kitchen windows or sat on the patio. Is the Lay-Z-Spa Barbados worth the money? Seven different colours of LED lighting set into the hot tub's inner walls allow you to fine-tune the evening's ambience. You can switch up the colour to match the mood via the wireless remote or use the auto-colour mode to cycle through the shades.
