Absolute". This is reflected in both Hebinuma's desire to "not settle for anything less than absolute" and Reiko's desire to live as the "absolute" version of herself. For me, such a nostalgic feeling is one and the same as love."A 30 year old realtor. Reiko's coworker. in Japanese). Shueisha. Archived from the original on November 30, 2022 . Retrieved November 30, 2022. This is a rich volume, full of significant little hints as well as some big, dramatic scenes and Jun Mayuzuki’s skills in creating and developing wonderfully complex characters are seen here to the full, both in her intricately detailed art and in the way the story is unfolding. If it weren’t for the fact that these interesting but flawed characters were caught up in the mysterious Generic Terra project (it can be glimpsed floating high, moon-like, above the city) this would probably evolve into yet another one of those urban SF stories in which the city is the main character. Although sometimes, it’s impossible not to wonder whether these might be the best chapters of Kowloon Generic Romance because at the moment, all kinds of amazing revelations could take place – and once the author reveals the truth behind the mysteries, it might just turn out to be something of a let-down. Volume 9 has just come out in Japan (October 2023) so we’re gradually catching up. We shall see… Kowloon Generic Romance, Vol. 4". Yen Press. Archived from the original on February 2, 2023 . Wham Episode: Chapter 7 is pretty startling when Kudou suddenly kisses Kujirai but it's completely blown out of the water by Chapter 8, in which Kujirai discovers a photo of her and Kudou together and learns that they were apparently lovers. And then there's that Mind Screw shot of her sitting in the abandoned, dilapidated Goldfish Teahouse... Love Redeems: His love for Guen has been considered to make him a considerably nicer and more mellow person. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, Miyuki Hebinuma and his boyfriend Gwen have gone to see a classic film at the cinema: The Butterfly Dream, starring an actress so famous for her beauty that Miyuki says his clients still ask him to make them look like her. Smoking Is Glamorous: In the opening chapter of Volume 2 several panels are devoted to Kudou's point of view as he watches the original Kujirai take a drag on her cigarette. It's pretty clear that he's bewitched by the sight. Kono Manga ga Sugoi! (in Japanese). Takarajimasha. December 10, 2020. Archived from the original on December 12, 2020 . Retrieved December 13, 2020.Kowloon Generic Romance is written and illustrated by Jun Mayuzuki. The series began in Shueisha's Weekly Young Jump on November 7, 2019. [4] [5] Shueisha has collected its chapters into individual tankōbon volumes. The first volume was published on February 19, 2020. [6] As of October 19, 2023, nine volumes have been published. [7]

Rewatch Bonus: After reading the series, rereading the first volume becomes an exercise in realizing Kudou is constantly quoting "Kujirai-B" and showing "Kujirai-A" the things she first showed him. It's also an exercise in realizing how much he loves (or loved) her. During a date, Miyuki and his boyfriend talk about the kind of person they are. While his boyfriend says he is the kind to get attached to people instead of places, Miyuki is the one to get attached to pain, in the sense that something is only meaningful if it hurts him. When they break up, Guen bites his mouth and leaves him with a bleeding so that he can't forget him either. One thing they do seem to agree on is Kowloon itself. Kudou waxes lyrical when they’re having a smoke on the top of their building, saying as the two gaze out over the city, “The people who live here – they’re all in love with Kowloon. This nostalgic Kowloon. So Kowloon will never change. It shouldn’t change. ‘Cos it doesn’t need anything new.” What is the meaning of the shot in Chapter 8 which reveals the Goldfish Teahouse to be abandoned and dilapidated?. Chapter 44 ends with a similar shot that shows the entirety of Kowloon in this way. Later chapters provides an explanation: The Kowloon we see is also already demolished, but certain people can interact with it in its pre-demolishment state. Perhaps these two shots are comparisons between those who can interact with Kowloon and those who cannot.

This series provides the following tropes:

Mais la vie se poursuit malgré tout et plus le temps passe, plus Reiko est proche de son collègue Hajime. Elle éprouve une étrange nostalgie quand elle se trouve en sa présence. Kujirai-A's eyesight improved so she only uses blue-light filter glasses in the office and around Kudou, but spends her time without it. Kujirai-B's glasses are something she actually needs to see, so she uses it all the time. This is doubly the case as Kujirai starts moving away from using glasses altogether. Since it is still publishing, I don’t know where the story is going too but so far it is keeping me piqued with curiosity. I love how it’s displaying the elements of a dystopian utopia so beautifully, be it the art or the story. (It also reminded a bit of summertime render due to the

Jun Mayuzuki: I get asked about how I became a manga artist or how I got into manga a lot. My parents really loved manga, so we had a ton of manga in the house. I was just in the right environment for both reading and enjoying manga and for creating manga. Instead of getting angry at me for reading manga, my parents were like, “Oh, you're reading that? Well, then you should read this one too.” They'd keep recommending me different series. I've also loved drawing ever since I was small. You add that to the fact that I was in a household full of manga, and it was sort of an inevitable outcome.Kowloon Generic Romance is an interesting manga. It can be slow, unpredictable, and often puts its own spin on themes and ideas typically not found in manga. The characters are fairly standard; however, they all have a certain amount of mystery surrounding them that goes along with a slowly unveiling plot. To no one’s surprise I’m sure, this is anything but a generic romance. Mayuzuki continues to excel at the art of communicating feeling purely through art and the progression of panels, rather than text. Her art is very charming, the world of Kowloon is very gorgeous and gritty, feels very in line with Dorohedoro’s The Hole (which was also likely inspired by the real life Kowloon) in Japanese). In Volume 3 Hebinuma drops by Wong Lo Realty Company to present them with a gift: a painting depicting Adam and Eve in the Garden of Eden receiving the fruit of knowledge from a snake. After he kisses Kujirai, she notes that his mouth tasted like an apple.
