I can't thank everyone on this forum enough esp those who have commented on my thread. the video pasted above gave me the idea of what i needed and then it was just 2+2 together kind of thing.

So i am almost certain the full linkage with new metal bar needs to be replaced. Although i have done loads of jobs on this car, i don't know how confident i would be doing this. is there anyone in/around leeds that would be able to give me a hand or do the job labour paid? along with my full time job I am a part time carer so rely on the car heavily. EDIT 2: I think I have figured out where i can get the two parts from. one kit does the spacers ( i think that's what they are! i hope) and then the other kit does the rubber bushings which go into the plastic spacer and the clip secures them. there is two white rubber bushes which look like they would fit into the pin but I'm still not 100% if that's what I need.
