To my mind, this incarnation of El Dorado 12 is better than its predecessor but isn't going to wow the masses in the same way. I also think that, at this price point, it is one of the better rums around. With that said, I'd happily a bit more for a 12 year old with a greater percentage of the pot still. This would probably put it in line with quality and price of some other good rums (I want to mention Doorly's 12, though I've not had it recently, so don't quote me on that).

I applaud them for heading into the right direction: both new rums are fantastic value, and miles better than their ancestors. The 12 year old, for me, is a perfect starter rum that I will forgive its low adulteration. The 15 year old is a new staple for readily available and low-priced Guyanese rum. I assume this is the new 12 year old since the kinship to the first one is evident to me. TASTING NOTES. On the nose this rum has strong flavours such as dark coffee, candied orange, almonds and dark chocolate. On the palate the 15 year old has a rounded palate with grilled tropical fruit, smooth oaky spice and a silky, vibrant finish.
