About this deal

The study suggests that the visions induced by ayahuasca engage the brain's memory circuits, and that this may "feed" activity in the primary visual cortex, which in turn drives activity in the other visual areas. The observation that the primary visual cortex is more active during imagery with eyes closed than during viewing of actual images is in keeping with numerous reports of the vividness of ayahuasca visions. All of these effects are thought to be mediated by increased activation of serotonin receptors throughout the brain regions involved. Elsewhere they are drinking Ayahuasca in colourful clothes coming from the wisdom they are getting. All this is according to the “book” we spoke about. Much depends of what the mother eats when she is pregnant – she should eat natural food so the child will be strong, otherwise they are weak. Amaringo believed in the profound interconnectedness of all things. He saw humanity as an integral part of the intricate web of life, with each individual carrying a unique gift to contribute to the collective. His art aimed to convey this interconnectedness, reminding viewers of their inherent connection to the natural and spiritual realms. Self-Discovery and Healing Amaringo saw his art as a sacred creation and medicine. He would chant ícaros ( a song sung in Shipibo healing ceremonies, or by vegetalistas) while painting, as though his canvases, paint and brushstrokes were medicine. He regarded the paintings as physically manifested ícaros, with the power to heal and awaken.

When you take any plant other than Ayahuasca, you connect through your dreams. Ajo sacha, Chric Sanango, Bobinsana etc. you learn while you are asleep. But with Ayahuasca no, you are conscious and awake. That is why it is the planta maestra – the eye through which you see the world, the universe. It is miraculous and sacred and you can learn from your studies far more with Ayahuasca than with other plants, but you must obey the ‘statutes’ of this plant, i.e. the rules. If you obey, no knowledge will be withheld from you. In his later years, due to health concerns, Amaringo retired from painting. However, his impact and legacy continued to resonate throughout the artistic and spiritual communities that he touched. Continued Spiritual Practice and Teachings Amaringo’s initial encounter with ayahuasca ignited a lifelong connection with the sacred plant medicine. He viewed ayahuasca as a gateway to the spirit world, a realm that held profound wisdom and insights. Through his continuous work with ayahuasca, Amaringo developed a deep understanding of its transformative power and integrating these experiences into his art. Spiritual and Healing Properties of Ayahuasca

Artwork by Pablo Amaringo

I used to make portraits and landscapes when I was 20 years old, but mostly using charcoal. But this didn’t earn me any money so I dedicated myself to other things, agriculture, raising animals and hairdressing, all kinds of things. I was working as secretary to the chief of customs here in the port of Pucullpa. One day my boss told me to paint two armchairs, and as I had never painted, I just slapped on the paint any old how, and it looked awful with lumps everywhere. But the boss didn’t reprimand me; he said how come you are good at everything except painting? I was a little hurt because he was always so impressed by everything I did. This made me think that if I was going to learn to paint, I would learn to do it well. The rising demand for ayahuasca art has led to its commercialization, with some pieces being mass-produced and sold for profit without considering the spiritual significance behind the art. This commercialization raises concerns about the commodification of sacred traditions and the dilution of their cultural and spiritual value. Questioning Authenticity and Intentions Recognised as one of the world’s great visionary artists, Pablo Amaringo was renowned for his intricate, colourful paintings inspired by his shamanic visions. A master communicator of the ayahuasca experience – where snakes, jaguars, subterranean beings, celestial palaces, aliens and spacecraft all converge – Amaringo’s art presents a doorway to the transcendent worlds of ayahuasca intended for contemplation, meditation and inspiration. My name is Ashley VanDuren and my portfolio is titled: ‘Pablo Amaringo: Ayahuasca Visions’. The type of license that I will be using is a CC BY-NC license. The consciousness of plants is a constant source of information for medicine, alimentation, and art, and an example of the intelligence and creative imagination of nature. Much of my education I owe to the intelligence of these great teachers. Thus I consider myself to be the “representative” of plants, and for this reason I assert that if they cut down the trees and burn what’s left of the rainforests, it is the same as burning a whole library of books without ever having read them.

Wild plants were made for changing the environment while domestic plants, especially flowers, are for altering the heart, mind and spirit of people. In your garden its best to grown domestic plants, to put on your table to make you happy and give you love. We don’t understand plants and we look down on them but they are our fuel, our medicine, they give us health and life. All this has taken many thousands of years of work by the spirits. Ayahuasca – meaning 'spirit vine' in Native South American Quechua languages – is a foul-tasting hallucinogenic brew that has been used for centuries by rain forest shamans as a religious sacrament. The infusion facilitates mystical visions and revelations, and is said to have healing properties. To date, there have been very few studies of how it affects brain function. Now, though, a team of Brazilian researchers reports one of the very first functional neuroimaging studies of the drug's effects. The plants in the painting are ishanga, maromara, pinon blanco, pinon colorado and pinon negro, lengua de perro, verbena. The ethnic elements are Shipibo5, Conibo, Shetebo, Amahuaca, and you can see the spells and spaceships.

The ayahuasca brew is made from the jungle vine Banisteriopsis caapi, which contains several beta-carboline compounds, and Psychotria viridis, a shrub containing the psychotropic dimethyltryptamine (DMT), which acts on specific subtypes of serotonin receptors. Taken on their own, neither of these ingredients has any significant effect, but when consumed together, they synergize. They made the plants grow and finally terrestrial animals, lions and tigers and large flying animals. These inventions gave them the practice they needed for creating more, four legged animals, and domestic animals.
