Note that Vox Continentals didn’t provide as many drawbars as Hammonds, and many popular Farfisas didn’t have drawbars at all, just stop tabs. This means the YC can create harmonic profiles that the originals couldn’t, albeit at the cost of strict authenticity. In any real musical use, the difference is negligible. Similarly, the percussion stops affect all of the transistor models in the same way. But it's so simple and intuitive, focused in its scope, and sounds so amazing that I don't really care.

On the front panel are the Volume slider and the Octave switch, which has a center position and transposes the keyboard by plus or minus one or two octaves. Instrument models
The keyboard is small and may not be to everyone's liking but it's got midi in/out so I don't see a problem with that. The keyboard isn't poor quality though, it's actually quite good, just a bit small and limited in range. In a sense, the whole Reface range defies expectations of size, scope and form. Each exudes quality and there’s not a duff-sounding or ill-conceived member amongst them. For me, the CP is the surprise gem — four great pianos and hands-on effects that work effectively throughout. Had there been an acoustic piano too, I’d have no choice but to declare perfection. You may not engage in reverse engineering, disassembly, decompilation or otherwise deriving a source code form of the SOFTWARE by any method whatsoever. At the end of the synthesis chain is a set of effects that really help to fatten the sometimes “flat” sound of FM synthesis. Like the CS, there’s distortion, phaser, chorus/flange, and delay. You also get a touch sensitive wah (yes!) and a basic hall reverb. Tearing myself reluctantly away from organising, I turned to the other end of the beauty scale. The aubergine-coloured DX has an authentic air of inscrutability compared to the rest. [14] [15] Models [ edit ] The CS-80: an inspiration to the Reface CS At the 2017 Superbooth music technology show, Yamaha showcased a robotic controller for the Reface CS called the Reface Robot. The robot was built in collaboration with the Fukuoka-based design company Anno Labs. [17] [18] The Reface Robot is made up of two aluminium sections, with robotic arms controlling the individual sliders and pots of the CS. The odd appearance of the Reface Robot was highlighted by Mixmag, who stated that "it looks like an army of robot toothbrushes cleaning a synth". [19] Awards [ edit ] The form factor is GREAT! No annoying menus. No computer screens. Everything is very "hands on". I love it! Very convenient size too. Of the two Rhodes, I was always partial to the Mk. 1 because of its rounded warmth. The CP’s version does not disappoint, recapturing that sound beautifully and immediately evoking some of my favorite Steely Dan hits. The Mk. 2 preset also nails the character of that iteration, with its emphasis on the tines. The Wurly had me jamming out old Queen and Supertramp classics with glee.
This is handy for impromptu jam sessions or recording your improvisations, sketchpad-style. Unfortunately, there’s no way to offload these sketches to your computer via USB, so if you accidentally write the next Taylor Swift hit while you’re doodling around, you’ll have to record the resulting sequence as audio to your DAW (aided by the fact that the CS doessync to external MIDI tempo) before powering down. The keybed is too light for my taste, but I'm getting used to it, and contrary to other carry-on keyboards I've had, you play yourself closer to it over time, not away from it. In short, it's playable.Sonically, we're happy to report the Reface CP is pretty impressive. Sure, you only have a three-octave velocity- sensitive keyboard (though one that feels very nice as it stands) but connect a sustain pedal and a weighted controller and use it as a sound module and you'll likely be very happy with the all-round authenticity and response of the onboard pianos.
