About this deal

Timewyrm: Revelation by Paul Cornell (appears as the Doctor's memory of him in the Seventh Doctor's subconscious)

doctor who New Zealand National Superannuation adverts". YouTube. Archived from the original on 18 November 2021 . Retrieved 12 June 2010. I designed my first Doctor Who in 1978, having begged and pestered my head of department to let me work on the show. A lot of other designers thought I was mad, I know, because Doctor Who was generally dismissed as kids’ stuff or ‘only science fiction.’ Most people wanted to do Play for Today or big period pieces – the kind of thing which might be nominated for a BAFTA award. But I loved science fiction because it is really the only area of work for a television costume designer that allows total freedom, and challenges you to use your imagination to the full.

New in Series

The Doctor escaped execution by using his scarf to trip up Count Federico's executioner. ( TV: The Masque of Mandragora)

Asylum by Peter Darvill-Evans (features the Fourth Doctor early in his life interacting with Nyssa from a point after she has left the Fifth Doctor) The Beast of Kravenos (adventure related by the characters the Fourth Doctor, Romana II & K9) (2017)

The TARDIS wardrobe contained a multi-coloured scarf during the Doctor's tenth incarnation. ( TV: The Christmas Invasion) There were many scarves used during Tom Baker's era. This included a considerably shorter "stunt scarf" for action sequences. The pattern and colouration varied from season to season, as did the overall length of the scarf, which, at one point reached a maximum length of 24 feet. For their second season, Williams and Read had planned out an overarching storyline that would run through the whole of the season. With more editorial control, it was also decided that the writers would put more emphasis on elements of fantasy and humour. Holmes wrote the first story, The Ribos Operation (1978), and the writing team of Bob Baker and Dave Martin handled what would be the final story of the season, The Armageddon Factor (1979). Douglas Adams wrote the second story, The Pirate Planet (1978), while another newcomer, David Fisher, wrote the third and fourth stories. Again, difficulties began to arise when the fifth story fell through. Robert Holmes consented to writing what would become The Power of Kroll (1978–79).
