This extra cost is because any recovery of over 4250kg requires a much larger and more expensive recovery vehicle......allegedly. In my opinion Red Pennant is no longer worth the money. This is based on my personal experience in 2018. Of those cancelled nights, over 25% are made within four days of arrival, so it’s very difficult for other members to take advantage of the newly vacant pitches. Red Pennant is a belt and braces cover and that is reflected in its cost. It is run by The Club and we have huge experience at assisting our members through the many problems experienced. Red Pennant is not just breakdown insurance, it is holiday protection insurance and . ... . For much of the cover that Red Pennant offers, the cover is ‘total cost’. Most members will travel to or through France as part of a Continental holiday. A breakdown on a French motorway can easily exceed the limits of cover offered by many of our competitors.
In a normal year, we often see over 25% of all bookings being cancelled (that’s over 950,000 cancelled nights...every year!) tiz', if you took out RP insurance in January this year was it an annual policy, if so then they should not have sold it to you as they were fully aware that you could not travel and effectively 'use that policy if needed'. If it was a one off policy for a date in August then I feel that it was unfair of them to take your money and should have advised you to take out the policy nearer to the date of travel when one would know what the situation would be with respect to foreign tarvel and Covid restrictions. One thing to bear in mind though, especially for us tuggers, is you must make sure your breakdown cover is "caravan friendly". This is, obviously, very very important. You need to make sure your caravan will be recovered in the event of your car breaking down whilst you are away from your caravan. And, of course, you will need your caravan covered in case you gave any issues with that (breaks, hitch etc). The C&CC/RAC policy covers all that. I assume Staysure does too. Many "bog standard" breakdown policies will not. On my return to the UK I was so appalled with the service provided that I made a formal complaint to the Director General of The Caravan Club, who accepted that there where failings in the service provided, which resulted in undisclosed compensation being made. On my discharge from Hospital my Wife told me that she had never felt so alone in her life thanks to Red Pennant.In fact dealing with Red Pennant was more stressful than the medical incident itself.Travelling abroad? Some years ago I believe they changed underwriters and some of the conditions of insurance became stricter particularly when it came to the age of people wanting insurance, I've done an online quote for the Red Pennant Travel Insurance and in the health screening I selected Yes to the following:-If you have an annual multi-trip policy with a start date on or after 1 January 2020 please call our Red Pennant team on 01342 336 606 and we can discuss options with you. However, Mollysmummy has a point, RP could perhaps offer more of its cover as options thereby giving members more choice of what to insure and perhaps obtain cheaper cover. For several years we have taken the Red Pennant travel and vehicle insurance for our foreign travels. The annual cover expires in August but I needed to notify them of a change of vehicle before we whizz off to France in a couple of days. It is very important to look beyond the list of cover offered to find the true extent of the cover and much of this is in the interpretation.
