About this deal

After Adolphe’s condition is revealed, this sets off a chain of events and the threads begin to merge. The syphilis-ridden artist spills all: he met a young man called Paul in the Bois de Boulogne, who promised him new vistas to paint, but instead took him to Château Bagatelle at the heart of the park. There Adolphe was seduced, and well, the rest is history. Oh, and he also gave this mystery seducer the money from the private showings, which displeased Meg no end. Post-Bagatelle, Cochefort had a decision to make. Even though he knew Jouin and Fiersi killed Guichard and the Coachman, he more or less let them off, leaving his protege’s fate in the capable hands of Chauvin.

But that would not have disoriented a spectator of 1900 because the press of the time loved to enter into macabre details". also surprises with the violence of the anti-Semitic speeches made by characters like Jules Guérin. Research-wise I used movies, documentation, I read up on as much as I could. Obviously, you don't have access to any videos or recordings because they didn't exist. What I like, is you can look at pictures and it's a snapshot but you don't know what happened before or after. So it's already the beginning of the creative work of the actor, to imagine. It’s all so brilliantly staged, superbly filmed and put together. None more so than a scene towards the end of the second episode. There’s some debate as to whether the body found in the park died by his own hand or by another, and after Bertillon and his adversary Docteur Socquet argue the toss in front of a crowd in the Bois de Boulogne, the former drives off in his new-fangled motorcar, only to plough straight into a horse.

Some scenes in “Paris Police 1900” are shot from no perceptible character point of view, or straight into window or door light, silhouetting the characters, comic book style. How much of a graphic novel sensibility carries over into the series?

Watching people watch TV? Really? On 7 March 2013, Caroline Aherne invited us inside the living rooms of the Siddiquis, Leon and June, Steph and Dom, and the Michaels as they tuned in to One Born Every Minute and the news to prove just how great a concept this was. The nation has lost two TV greats in the decade since – Leon and Aherne – but the show is still going strong, and this special episode reminds us of some of the best bits. Hollie Richardson Crufts 3pm, Channel 4 There are some surprisingly brutal scenes (not necessarily for the squeamish, which you'll realise from the opening scene), and a couple of slightly suggestive sexual moments.

Cast & Crew

What I really liked about the series is the character of Jeanne Chauvin, which is very real,” underlines Arnaud-Dominique Houte.
