About this deal

Just finished reading this for the second time and I love it more now that we have lost my favorite royal. Still love the peek inside her purse and also the signals she would send to staff depending on what she did with her purse (on the table = leave in 5; switch from one arm to the other = please interrupt and take me away; purse on the floor = leave immediately). If you are a royal watcher, you will get so much enjoyment out of this colorful little book! Our Rainbow Queen: A Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and Her Colorful Wardrobe by Sali Hughes Book Review This riotously colorful book takes a prismatic journey through a century of styles worn by British Monarch Queen Elizabeth II. Each photo is gloriously accessorized with captions and commentary by journalist and broadcaster Sali Hughes, who provides fascinating context. Readers will learn how the Queen used color and fashion in strategic and discreetly political ways, such as wearing the colors of the European flag to a post-Brexit meeting or a pin given to her by the Obam He adds the Queen also receives incoming ambassadors, as well as carrying out a myriad of other duties include the Privy Council, which she had to miss last night on medical advice. Overall, I would give Our Rainbow Queen a rating of 4.5 out of 5. The only downside for me was that at times, the book felt a bit repetitive, as Hughes tends to revisit certain themes and ideas multiple times. However, this is a minor flaw in an otherwise fantastic and inspiring read.

Read Our Rainbow Queen: A Tribute to Queen Elizabeth II and Her Colorful Wardrobe by Sali Hughes PDF I enjoyed learning about the often political and cultural meaning behind the Queen's fashion and jewellery choices, indicating advanced research and preparation for every event and Royal engagement. I especially enjoyed her choice to wear a brooch given to her by the Obamas when meeting President Trump, and to wear the EU colours of blue and gold when attending the State Opening of Parliament post Brexit referendum.

In the "Green" introduction, the author asserts that QEII is careful about where she wears green. "She won't attend an engagement at a grassy venue, like a racecourse or garden party . . ." in green, yet several photos show her in green at Epsom Racecourse for Derby Day, polo at Windsor Great Park, and posing with her beloved dogs on the lawn and in a garden. I thoroughly enjoyed this little read and all of the trivia it contained. Many designers are mentioned, Royal warrants explained and much more. Learning the Queen's outfits were all weather tested and logged to avoid any repetition of an ensemble and that she won't wear shoes that have a heel higher than 2.25 inches was interesting. However, in recent years, after coming under fire by activists, Her Majesty has chosen wear to faux fur to engagements. Angela revealed, ‘If Her Majesty is due to attend an engagement in particularly cold weather, fake fur will be used to make sure she stays warm.’ The Ascot look A full-spectrum collection of photos of the late Queen Elizabeth II—spanning ten decades of fashion and every color of the rainbow. If you're just joining us, here's a reminder of where things stand amid concerns over the Queen's health. Soon after that, we heard news that all the Queen's children were either already with her at Balmoral Castle in Scotland or travelling to be with her. Another strength of Our Rainbow Queen is Hughes' ability to connect with her readers on a personal level. Throughout the book, she shares relatable and often humorous anecdotes that will resonate with many people. I found myself nodding along and laughing at some of the situations she described, and I think this is a big part of what makes the book so enjoyable to read.
