About this deal

Finally, near silent and smooth autofocus makes this lens perform well for video. DC-G9 + OLYMPUS M.60mm F2.8 Macro @ 60mm, ISO 500, 1/100, f/7.1 Weaknesses As for the focal length, with the Four Thirds crop factor, you get an effective 120mm–which is perfect for photographing flowers, vegetation, natural details, and even some insects. As you continue to narrow the aperture, the Velvet 85 will become sharper and sharper–until you eventually can’t tell the difference between it and other conventional macro lenses on this list. Optically, I haven’t experienced any significant weaknesses on the 90mm f/3.5 Macro. The sharpness is breathtaking, even compared to the M.Zuiko 60mm f/2.8 Macro that has always been my sharpest lens. Not to mention that the working distance of this lens is comfortable, and the image stabilization works as it should.

MPB puts photo and video kit into more hands, more sustainably. Every month, visual storytellers sell more than 20,000 cameras and lenses to MPB. Choose used and get affordable access to kit that doesn’t cost the earth. If you’re looking to photograph insects (or any other subject requiring a significant working distance), then the Samyang 100mm f/2.8 is one of the only options available.

Here’s another with a stronger crop: DC-G9 + OLYMPUS M.60mm F2.8 Macro @ 60mm, ISO 160, 1/250, f/11.0 DC-G9 + OLYMPUS M.60mm F2.8 Macro @ 60mm, ISO 160, 1/250, f/11.0 Sell the kit you’re not using to MPB. Trade in for the kit you need to create. Buy used, spend less and get more. Buy. Sell. Trade. Create. Panasonic offers the Panasonic Leica Macro-Elmarit 45mm f/2.8 ASPH lens, which is the only other Panasonic or Olympus macro lens for Micro Four Thirds cameras. This lens also offers a 1:1 magnification. The biggest difference is of course the focal length, which is quite a bit less at 45mm. This means that you need to stand closer to your subjects compared to the M.Zuiko 60mm macro lens. Another noteworthy difference is that the Panasonic Leica 45mm macro is not advertised as weather sealed. I don't tend to take table top type shots but on the creative side of things different angles and perspectives are often fun. You will notice that the distance from the subject makes a difference to the perspective you see in the final picture. Perspective is a function not of focal length but of distance to the subject and things that can give the same subject a different look relative to other things in the frame (if there are any) or even from one point on the subject to another are the angle you shoot from and the distance the shot is taken from. What you can do is either take the shot from close distance or from a greater distance and crop post capture. The two pictures, focusing from near and further away, can have quite different perspectives. In short, the OM System 90mm f/3.5 Macro IS PRO is an exceptionally sharp, high-performing macro lens with great usability due to the large working distance. Once you adapt to the peculiarities of focusing with this lens, it’s hard to beat – and I’d say it’s stolen the crown as the ultimate macro lens for the Micro Four Thirds system.

The Lensbaby Velvet 56 is very similar to the Velvet 85 (as seen above) except, of course, the focal length is 56mm instead of 85mm, and you get a slight amount of extra light via the f/1.6 aperture. That’s why I recommend more serious macro photographers work with an effective focal length of at least 70mm. If you’re going to photograph insects, you’ll want to be able to shoot at 150mm or longer; otherwise, the working distance may be too short to get close to your subjects. Select a Lens With a Wide Maximum Aperture This lens provides a great combination of great optical performance, lightweight, compact design and value for money. Ok, on to some images. Each set is the 45mm first and the 60mm next, framing as close as I could get it to the same.
