About this deal

Originally practicing medicine in London, Dr. Lucas came to Australia in 1876 seeking a warmer climate. He initially moved to Melbourne where he practiced for 10 years before moving to Brisbane in Queensland. It was in Queensland that the story of Lucas’ Papaw Ointment really starts to take shape. The “Discovery” of the Benefits of Papaw

The passion Dr Lucas had for medicine and caring for people led him to open a special Hospital called “Vera”. At the hospital, located in Brisbane, patients were treated solely by his Papaw remedies. Take a look at your red plastic jar or tube of Lucas Papaw Ointment and you will see the trade mark “Vera Papaw Hospital” picture is still printed on them today. Prescriptions must be written on an Authority Prescription Form, and the approval number must be noted on the prescription. Pharmacists cannot dispense the item as a pharmaceutical benefit unless it has been approved by Medicare Australia (indicated by the presence of the approval number). After the death of Dr. Lucas it was impossible to carry on the overwhelming work that the Vera Papaw Hospital entailed. However, it was possible to make available for the public benefit the remedies which were used for treatment and therapy. Some drugs may have Authority Required (Streamlined) status which does not require an explicit approval from Medicare, instead the doctor can use the Authority code found in the published Schedule for a given drug/indication.Available in stores now, beauty and skincare lovers alike will need to keep balm and carry on as the range is set to fly off the shelves! After moving to Queensland, Dr Lucas carried out numerous scientific studies, botanical and medicinal experiments, looking for a natural remedy for disease. Dr Lucas started to combine his medical training with his profound knowledge of natural history and botany. While carrying out his botanical research, Dr Lucas studied tens of thousands of botanical specimens. The specimen which commanded his closest attention and to which he devoted special study was the papaw tree. The hospital recorded many fantastic results, including cases of disease which had until then been deemed incurable yielding to this latest treatment. As people saw the benefits of the ointment its use spread around Australia and the world. There was even a testimony to Papaw written in 1910 by the Great Ormond St. Hospital London. The Legacy of Dr Lucas and his Ointment Some PBS medications are restricted and require prior approval from Medicare before a doctor is able to prescribe them on the PBS. This prior approval to prescribe grants the doctor the Authority to prescribe the desired medicine and have it funded under the PBS. Our product does not contain polyplasdone, polyvinylpyrrolidone, talc, shellac, palm oil, glycerin or sodium lauryl sulphate.

Best results are experienced by covering the wound completely in Lucas’ Papaw Ointment and then covering with a clean dressing such as a Band-Aid or bandage – depending on the size of the affected area and the position of the wound on the body.Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is an ideal topical application for lasting relief from irritation such as mosquito bites and other non-venomous insect stings and bites. Lucas’ Papaw Ointment soothes and takes the itch and pain of the sting away. Lucas’ Papaw Ointment is also commonly used to sooth a range of minor burns such as sunburn and superficial small area scalds and cooking injuries. The fruit is received fresh to our factory in Brisbane where we ferment it under strictly controlled conditions. Every item of fruit we use is hand selected. Once the fruit is fermented to just the right level we can use it to make the ointment. The finished product contains 0.1mg/g of Potassium Sorbate which acts as a preservative. Following its success Down Under, Lacura, Aldi’s popular health and beauty brand has today announced the launch of Aussie PawPaw Ointment in stores across the UK, just in time for the colder spells of weather.

Our commitment to quality is total. The manufacturing process is in complete compliance with the Code of Good Manufacturing Practice as administered by the Therapeutic Goods Administration (TGA). The ointment is prepared in an extremely clean environment to ensure it is free from impurities. Paw paw ointments are famous for healing chapped lips, making it a fantastic lip treament. However, it's not necessarily the most moisturizing product out there, since a lot of variants contain petroleum jelly, an occlusive ingredient that seals in moisture but doesn't really provide any. (Don't let the slippery feel deceive you) On his death, Dr Lucas left to his widow the complete formulae of his preparations and all directions for compounding them. Mrs. Lucas (who for many years had been actively engaged with him in his hospital work) gave active and devoted attention to continuing the production of the ointment that her husband had worked so hard to create.
