About this deal

This is a great book to read and I loved the suspense, intrigue and mystery here. David Cade works for Marine Police and finds himself working alongside Naomi who has been sidelined from her normal job after being blamed for the death of three colleagues. I really liked the two main characters here, they are both flawed with good histories. When bodies are found in the river and Met Police show interest David and Naomi realise all is not what it seems. I found this to be a very well written and engaging read which I've got through in under a day, it was that good. I loved the individual story threads and the twists in the plot and I liked the author's writing style which certainly grabbed and held my attention from start to finish. I thought the pacing was just right and liked that the story was told through the different characters, and as the book progressed this definitely became the kind of read that was hard to put down. I'd recommend this if you like crime books and I enjoyed that the story focused on the Marine Police side and found this a refreshing change. I'd definitely want to read another book featuring Cade and hope for more to come in the future Without a doubt, the biggest distraction I face is my four-year-old daughter, Amelie. She will come into my office where I write, climb on the desk, attempt to persuade me to play with her and quite often succeeds.Being a full-time writer means working from home and being able to spend a lot of time with her, so I really can’t complain. She will soon have a rival for my attention, though, as we’re expecting a second baby in March. I’m trying to get as much writing done as possible before our lives are turned upside down once more. I don’t really buy books I don’t read if I can help it. I’d say about five at the moment, but I don’t tend to buy books if my TBR pile is too high. Any books that you’re looking forward to in the next 12 months? Benedict’s Lord Edgington Investigates series features a genius detective and his not-quite-so-brainy grandson solving whodunnits in a selection of luxurious country piles. Dive’ is superbly written. Jon certainly knows how to grab the reader’s attention and draw them in what proves to be one hell of a read and then some. For me, the story hit the ground running and maintained a fairly fast pace throughout. Reading ‘Dive’ felt like being on an at time scary and unpredictable rollercoaster ride with several twists and turns along the way. I have to say that this book stands out from other police procedurals because it focuses on the police diving department and I can honestly say that I haven’t come across such a focus on the police diving team in any other books that I have read in recent memory. I love the way in which Jon makes the reader feel as though they are pafrt of the story and at the heart of the action. That’s how I felt anyway.

He had spent four years working on the novel off and on at this point, so it was tough not to take this personally. When you know you have written the very best book that you are capable of, and people still do not like it, that can take some getting used to it. I don’t think I have a favourite. It’s gratifying when someone reads it and totally invests in the world and the characters, and they can see the same potential I saw listening to divers and their stories. What can you tell us about your next book? Jon gravitates to commercial fiction, but doesn’t discriminate if he can help it. He likes good science fiction if it is grounded, and he has a lot of time for horror. “I Am Legend” by Richard Matheson was a seminal moment when he read it for the first time, however he’d say the same thing of “The Godfather” by Mario Puzo and “The BFG” by Roald Dahl. He likes to think that he reads widely. DIVE by Jon Barton Dive into London’s most dangerous crime scene — the River Thames. A police diver whose obsession with the job has made his home life implode. It was a pleasure working with Jon, who helped renew my confidence in my manuscript after a break. I’d recommend working with him to anyone struggling to write on their own.” — Remy Maisel David and Naomi must work together if they're going to solve the dead girls' murders and find Lex. Then they uncover something that will threaten to blow the case apart — if it doesn't get them killed first . . . Jon was incredible. I intend to keep in touch with him throughout the next stage of my writing!” — Luke Martin Police diver David Cade lives by a simple rule: pull out the bodies and move on. Naomi can't abide that. Her whole career, she's wanted to fight the good fight. But circumstances have sent Naomi to the Marine Police. I developed skills and I learned a lot. Jon is a great tutor and I’d recommend him to anyone looking to jumpstart their Creative Writing.” — Elizabeth Pain

Dive is a gripping crime thriller about the murky world of Metropolitan Police divers and the River Thames, London’s deadliest crime scene. When his daughter disappears and bodies surface in the river matching her description, workaholic diver David Cade and disgraced detective Naomi Harding join forces to uncover a sinister crime that will change the course of everything. I personally valued Jon’s advice and positive attitude. Writers struggle to take the first step and Jon inspired me to keep going.” — Almudena Perez Jon is a fantastic mentor, editor, advisor and teacher. After publishing my first book, I was being asked how it might be adapted for TV and was absolutely flailing. Working with Jon gave me the tools and vocabulary to conceptualise an adaptation and describe it clearly and effectively in pitch form. I am immensely grateful for his patience, insight and generosity. He’s helped me to become a better writer, both artistically and professionally.” — Haley McGee It’s all about the story for me. If I write a blurb that grabs me, I’m all in. Do you have any rituals when writing? Naomi Harding has been sidelined from her usual work following a disasterous case.
