About this deal

Bydd llawer o blant yn adnabod seren y llyfr fel George Webster cyflwynydd CBeebies, wedi'i drawsnewid yn gymeriad llyfr lluniau gan y darlunydd Tim Budgen. Wedi'i ysbrydoli gan gerdd, ac yn ymuno i gydweithio â'r awdures Claire Taylor, mae'r llyfr hwn yn rhannu doethineb George a'i awch am fywyd mewn dathliad o amrywiaeth, cyfeillgarwch a bod yn chi'ch hun. There is some disagreement in the house about whether George’s singing is a strength or a weakness. “They say my singing is really bad,” he says. George Webster is an actor, BAFTA-winning presenter, Ambassador for Mencap, and a star of Strictly Come Dancing 2022, including its Christmas Day special. George was catapulted into the public eye when he spoke about Down syndrome in his myth-busting video for BBC Bitesize, and was later asked to be a presenter on CBeebies. George was the first ever CBeebies presenter to have Down syndrome.

Has he ever played that card? “I have done!” George laughs. “In one lesson, I wasn’t writing and the teacher asked why and I said people with Down’s syndrome find it hard to write.” George’s writing is fine. CBeebies, you have made a mum of a little boy just like George so excited. You are the best,” tweeted Karen Taylor. One father posted a picture of himself and his daughter, who has Down’s, saying: “Go George!!! We are so excited to see you.” We all have our individual likes and dislikes, enjoy different activities and have the ability to shine in our own ways. We each have a unique set of ingredients that make us – well, us.

Synopsis from Good Reads "This is me. I am George. My eyes are sparkly, just like my mum. Like my dad, I'm determined and brave, and like my sister, I'm full of FUN! In this beautifully written and gorgeously illustrated picture book, a little boy called George wants to tell you all about himself. You see, just like lots of people in the world, George has Down syndrome and he knows it doesn't define him - as there are so many things that make George wonderful, and Down syndrome is just one of them. Our differences make us special. We don't all have to be the same. Imagine how boring the world would be if everyone had the same name. We originally agreed for George to be a guest presenter just to ease him in and introduce him to the CBeebies family. But actually, I think rapidly we’re already looking at a Friday every other week, aren’t we, George?” said the CBeebies producer Claire Taylor on a three-way video call with her new star and the Guardian. “And then I’m sure that it will come to a weekly slot, if not more.” Mae gan bob un ohonon ni ein hoff bethau a'n cas bethau, a'r gallu i serennu yn ein ffyrdd arbennig ein hunain. Mae gan bawb gasgliad o gynhwysion unigryw sy'n ein gwneud ni yn ni. This is Me will bring out the glow in everyone! Our differences make us special. We don't all have to be the same. Imagine how boring the world would be if everyone had the same name.

Rob didn’t even see people with Down’s syndrome when he was younger, “at school, in the community, in the media. Kids are growing up now seeing George at school and on the telly and it’s totally normal; they’re getting a completely different outlook.” Another wrote: “My boy has autism and he turned to me and said: ‘I like George, Daddy.’ That’s all you need to know. Thank you CBeebies. You’ve done a wonderful thing today.” People with Down’s are not always happy, he said: “People with Down’s syndrome have emotions and feelings like every other person.” Nor do they “suffer” from the condition, he explained. “I have an amazing life. It’s been very positive. I loved going to school. I went to two local amazing schools. I had support at both schools, which helped me in my education. I got GCSEs and an A-level equivalent in BTec sport, level 3.”

Teaching about the latest events?

A hugely uplifting and full-of-heart picture book by CBeebies sensation George Webster and bestselling illustrator Tim Budgen! Meet George and his friends! This is me. I am George. My eyes are sparkly, just like my mum. Now, I’m worrying about the seeing-me-for-me thing, that we’re talking mainly about Down’s syndrome, which may be a part of who George is but it certainly doesn’t define him. “I don’t mind – I’m happy to talk about anything,” he says. But we need to get on to the glow, the fledgling but already glittering career. When I was a kid, there was no one on TV, in films, even in books, with Down’s syndrome,” George says. “At that time, they thought people like me shouldn’t go to mainstream school.”
