About this deal

New third-party N64 controllers are still being made today by reputable companies like Retro-Bit and Retro Fighters in both wired and wireless formats. Q: Do I need an N64 Controller Pak/Memory Card? The dongle broke off inside the n64 after just the first time I removed it. For some reason it’s entirely too tight in there so breaks off easily. The wires are intact so it still works but I have to grab it from part that broke off to remove it. I'm currently using a 8bitdo modkit for the N64 controller, works great using bluetooth, but has weird issues when using wired USB. Both this and the DS4 I usually use for casual gaming have weird issues with analog sensitivity, range is -127 to +127 (normal for USB/Bluetooth) instead of the usual +/- 80 to 85 I'd expect from original N64 controllers on real hardware. There are a bunch of ROMs for testing analog range, here are a few: For now, I plugged the Brawler64 into my Mister using the supplied USB cable, and it works perfectly, including C-buttons. But, no rumble in any game I have tested. Can anyone with a Brawler64 confirm if they get rumble or not ? Many thanks.

Layout is great. Everything is easy to reach and pretty intuitive even when used to the normal controllerThe Brawler64 is a high-quality video game controller from Retrofighters, designed to provide a classic gaming experience for players on modern devices. This versatile controller is compatible with the Nintendo Switch (Switch Online) and PC, making it a must-have accessory for gamers who want to play their favorite games with a traditional feel.

I have a few moments where I need to have surgeon like hands to do something that I remember not struggling as much on original hardware. I still couldn't get the rumble functionality to work on the 8bitdo modkit, but it's working fine on my DS4 on the N64 core. Note I'm using the stable MiSTer, not the latest unstable. I do not know if rumble is already working on the current unstable or not. Whether you're playing classic games from your childhood or modern titles, the Brawler64 provides a familiar gaming experience that will feel comfortable and intuitive. And with its compatibility with the Nintendo Switch (Switch Online) and PC, you can take your gaming to new heights and play your favorite games anywhere, anytime. It’s true; retro companies such as Hyperkin and Retro Fighters are updating the way we play with new controllers that look and feel like the Nintendo Switch Pro controller and the iconic Wave Bird remote. Also strangely enough there is one game I noticed that doesn’t recognize the controller pak in the dongle and that is fighting force 64 it thinks a rumble pak is inserted every time and that’s after trying my other controller pak as well. None of my other games do this with the controller pak so that is very strange. It won’t be much of a surprise to learn that Nintendo has stopped making N64 controllers these days. The Console was discontinued in 2003, but its legacy lives on as retro gaming companies strive to keep this console both current and very much alive.

on the same controller on Switch mode, there's no more SOCD filtering on the C buttons (didn't test on the d-pad, as I would have to disassemble the controller to test) I bought both the "Retro Fighters Brawler 64 Wireless Bluetooth NSO Edition" and the "Retro-bit Tribute 64 2.4 GHz Wireless Controller V2", and I am happy to report that both are great controllers, and they both work at the same time as player 1 and player 2 without having to do anything fancy. Like I said earlier I plan on keeping this anyway because everything else about it is great but it’s super annoying that it broke off like that Hi Everyone, I had quite a hard time setting up the wireless brawler64 PC controller so it would work with the default N64 emulator but I finally figured it out. Figure I would share how for anyone else trying to do this. Here is the xml element from share/system/configs/emulationstation/es_input.cfg:

It works flawlessly with NSO N64 games, correct button mapping, access to the suspend menu, home menu, etc. The swap button also works perfectly without even needing to enter the controller change screen. While I doubt I’ll use it as a pro controller, that button is great for being able to access X/Y button functionality that doesn’t exist on the N64 controller. The switch actually reads it as a N64 controller in N64 mode and a pro controller in pro controller mode, as notated by the icon at the bottom of the screen. The Brawler 64 wired N64 remote from Retro Fighters is the best way to play all of your favourite games. It makes pulling off the best moves in Super Smash Bros. an absolute breeze, and games like Ocarina of Time and Perfect Dark feel refreshingly new. In addition to its classic design, the Brawler64 is also equipped with cutting-edge technology. The controller connects wirelessly to your device via Bluetooth, eliminating the need for cumbersome cords and allowing you to play from a comfortable distance. This makes the Brawler64 ideal for use with the Nintendo Switch, which can be played both as a home console and as a handheld device. Occasionally when I have to hold the A or B button for an extended time, the controller will think I released when I didn't. I think this is mostly a sensitivity issue because, if I press down hard it doesn't do that. I haven't noticed an issue when I just tap them.
