It’s so difficult to imagine that in this world we live in less than one hundred years ago genocide, a horrible abomination to kill Jews was orchestrated, it’s beyond belief! I listened to the audiobook, narrated by Finty Williams and she did a fantastic job and kept me captivated the entire time.A heartbreaking story of love and survival based on the incredible true story of the Meller sisters, as told to Heather Morris. The heavy drapes are drawn in the bedroom, denying Magda, shivering, feverish, the brilliant spring sunshine which now peeks above the curtain rail. Shortly before the publication of The Missing Sister , Lucinda announced an eighth and final book in The Seven Sisters series, promising to answer the question at the heart of the story: Who is Pa Salt? Before her death, Lucinda was able to write several important passages and detailed notes on the story. She expressed a clear wish that her eldest son, Harry, should complete the series if the worst were to happen. In 2014, the play was staged at the Southwark Playhouse, directed by Russell Bolam. Wow Three Sisters by Heather Morris is an utterly incredible story! This is a difficult and overwhelming book to review, it was a remarkably enjoyable read but that doesn’t sound right considering the theme of the story. It’s a powerful and inspiring story of hope, resilience, commitment and courage.In 1991, sisters Vanessa Redgrave (Olga) and Lynn Redgrave (Masha) made their first and only appearance together onstage in this, with niece Jemma Redgrave as Irina at the Queen's Theatre, London. I wanted to appreciate this more than I did. The story is based on real women, and my heart went out to these women. Their strength was amazing, especially their ability to put the needs of their sisters ahead of their own needs. As is said in the Afterword, the story is a testament to the power of love and devotion. But for me, I want to learn something new from historical fiction. This is why I blame the synopsis of the book. I expected a book about the influx of Jews to Israel after the war. It’s what I wanted to learn about. The synopsis literally says “ And this is where the story begins. From there, the three sisters travel to Israel, to their new home.” But it’s not where the story begins. The last 40% of the book describes their return to Slovakia and their attempt to reach Israel. I was much more interested in this part of the book, as it was all new to me. I wish the book had focused more on this time in their lives. I also wished that Morris had found a way to give us more details about the formation of the new country. Several soldiers and an elderly family friend, Chebutykin, come to visit for the name-day celebration. One solider, Baron Tuzenbakh, shares Irina’s idealization of labor, and they discuss their longing to work someday. Masha, the middle Prozorov sister, is about to leave the dull party when a new Lieutenant-Colonel, Vershinin, is introduced. He is a married, philosophically inclined man in his 40s, and he knew the sisters’ parents in Moscow. The sisters introduce their brother, Andrey, and brag about his academic promise.

The tone of the book (for me), felt elementary and the dialogue between the sisters felt too sugary-sappy, for my taste. Their was a fluffiness tone - that many readers might adore — Most of us have heard about stories of the holocaust and the horrific cruelty dealt to the people imprisoned at camps like Auschwitz - Birkenau, this story takes place before, during and after the holocaust.Three Sisters … takes readers on an emotional roller coaster … As fascinating as the novel is, the story of how Morris came to discover the women whom she based her plot around is equally compelling.” -- Hadassah Magazine The play was written for the Moscow Art Theatre and it opened on 31 January 1901, under the direction of Konstantin Stanislavski and Vladimir Nemirovich-Danchenko.
