About this deal

The Kings of Cool" is an amazing tour-de-force. It is an absolute blast to read and your immediate reaction after finishing this book is to scope out whatever else this author has published. "Kings of Cool" is billed as a prequel to "Savages," Winslow's most well-known book. There is no reason not to read this one first - I did. Savages had one of the worst and most melodramatic of endings that I have ever read in a gritty crime book. The Kings of Cool ends on a much more satisfying note. It works as a prequel by adding depth to most of Savage's characters except O. So better characters and better ending will translate to a better rating though the writing still irritates me. Rating - 3/5

I liked their will to live... adapt to worst to worst situations... to keep presense of mind in adverse situations... never to give up in case where they failed thrice continuously for rafts. For River, the girl who not once in four books had normal missionary style sex except for the time... when I suppose, she was in the missionary position with one guy BUT her head was hanging off the bed while she was simultaneously giving an UPSIDE DOWN BJ to another guy ...which doesn't count, IMO, I'm gonna miss the hell outta you! 💜💜💜💜 The famous characters Frankie Machine and Booby Z make an appearance in here from Don Winslow's other novels. Bobby Z is featured more in the past than Frankie Machine who is just mentioned briefly. And, most importantly, in my memory the writing style was so much better--exciting even! But, on this new read-through, the writing was horrible! I was bored. This wasn’t my favorite out of the whole series. I’ll be honest I thought about giving this one a 2/5 rating instead.

Silvana, not Suzy, is the bait on the beach. (That was one of my favorite parts the first time around.) As misfortune rains down on the group, opportunity also has a way of magically appearing as the castaways battle jungle, cannibalistic natives and their own frightening desires with a gritty determination that belies their pampered pasts. Hunting in a dense rainforest is not easy. Their technology included spears and blowguns. Poison darts would kill monkeys in the branches above, requiring the hunter to climb up and retrieve them. Over time, the feet of men who spent a lot of time in the treetops changed shape, making it easier for them to climb ( Photo). Big toes bent outward, providing a tighter grip. Having said that, this is an awesome series. It has been described as Den Of Vipers meets Mafia and sleeps with your favorite Bully/Academy. It is that and so much more. This series is four books long so we really get to know each of the characters well. All the nuances of their personalities, fears, old hurts, loves, etc. This was a pleasure because Ms. Ashwood weaves a marvelous tale that is driven not only by action and sex but by the wonderful, strong, female character and her four man harem. He adds depth to the characters we met in Savages. He adds a history and an origin to the friendship - the almost brotherly bond - between Ben and Chon that only makes you appreciate these guys even more. He even lets you in on the ties between Chon and "O" (Ophelia) - with sexy results.Savages has got to be the same book that I remember from fifteen years ago, the plot is the same. But, the writing style and the details as the plot is fleshed out are so very different than I remember! Don Winslow wrote his masterpiece of a prequel to Savages. O, Chon, and Ben are an inseparable trio, something we learned in Savages. Any details I thought were missing from Savages, exists in this book. These two need to go together because any place that Savages fell short, Kings of Cool filled it in. Story Synopsis: A group of mining hotshots and their wives are having a vacation-cum-business outing on an island paradise. However, there is a coup, and a villainous general takes control of the hotel they are in. The executives are all shot dead. Their wives escape in a boat to a jungle. The story follows the lives of these rich women who know nothing about surviving in the jungle, and worse, hate each other. The horror! Jennifer Lawrence was originally cast as Ophelia but dropped out due to scheduling conflicts. [9] Other actresses considered to replace Lawrence included Amber Heard, Olivia Wilde, Lindsay Lohan, Teresa Palmer, and Abbie Cornish. [10] In April 2011, it was reported that Blake Lively had been cast as Ophelia. [11] Before casting Taylor Kitsch in the film, Oliver Stone asked director Peter Berg to show him 30 minutes of Kitsch's work in Battleship to see how he was as a leading man, and after seeing that footage, he cast him. [12] Trevor Donovan originally auditioned for a role that was cut but after seeing Donovan's tape, Stone specifically wrote him a part that was not in the book. [13] Uma Thurman played Ophelia's mother, Paqu, but her scenes were cut due to time constraints. [14] Release [ edit ]
