She is approached at a bus station by an eccentric man named Sully (Rylance), who introduces himself as a fellow "eater" and teaches her that their kind can identify one another via scent. He leads her into a house owned by an elderly woman, who has collapsed and is near death, and they feed on the corpse together the following morning, though Maren is initially reluctant. Sully expresses interest in taking Maren under his wing, but she is unnerved by him and flees the house soon after.

Within minutes they're off and running to the next state, and she's got more questions than he has answers. Timothée Chalamet, Francesco Melzi d'Eril, Luca Guadagnino, David Kajganich, Lorenzo Mieli, Marco Morabito, Gabriele Moratti, Theresa Park, Peter Spears knew her mom and rarely lives in one place long enough to make any real friends. During an impromptu sleepover with a few girls from school, into the overall plot, yet also serves as a vague metaphor for one or more potential themes: sexuality, coming of age, fear of unknowns, all three, Set in the 80s, high school senior, Meran ( Russell) and her father ( André Holland) have a history of ditching town in a hurry. It’s not that they want to. It’s that they have to. For reasons unknown to Meran, she has an uncontrollable craving for human flesh. And after her last cannibal indulgence at a sleepover where she bites off one of her friend’s fingers, her father can no longer handle their volatile situation anymore. He leaves his 18-year-old daughter some money, her birth certificate, and a tape explaining some of the family’s past, including hints of her mother’s past cannibalistic nature. From there, she decides to travel across states to find her mother and hopefully get answers. And along the way, she somehow finds more people like her…or rather, they find her. Among other eccentric characters, she meets an intense and hardened Lee (Chalamet). And between them grows a fondness as he offers to accompany her to find her mother. With him, Meran learns how to survive and potentially embrace this unfamiliar way of life, but nothing about the murderous ways this life demands sits right with her.

Bones and All is a story of first love between Maren, a young woman learning to survive on the margins of society, and Lee, an intense and disenfranchised drifter. It’s a liberating road odyssey of two young people coming in to their own, searching for identity and chasing beauty in a perilous world that cannot abide who they are. I’m sure that this film hit on some very sensitive topics. Watching a movie about cannibals (and I can’t seem to think of one off the top of my head other than The Donner Party) is certainly not something that people will want to do. And, therefore, I can see why this movie missed the mark commercially, but it was a hit with the critics. The cast, of course, is the key to the film’s appeal. both Taylor Russell and Timothee Chalamet deliver top notch performances with Mark Rylance offering a bit of, well, his particular style of acting (I tend to think he plays the same character in every movie).
